Inside the Role

We are looking for a strategic and technically driven leader to serve as Director, Engine Validation for North America. This role is responsible for overseeing the design, simulation, optimization, and validation of engines tailored to North American performance, regulatory, and customer requirements, while operating within a globally integrated R&D framework. The Director will lead efforts to ensure engines deliver efficient power, durability, and refined NVH characteristics, with seamless integration into the full powertrain and vehicle. This includes driving issue resolution and continuous improvement throughout development and production, leveraging field data and warranty insights. The role also champions the evolution of validation strategies, including Master DVP&Rs and advanced testing methods, and promotes the use of standardized tools such as eDVPR and GTRS. Collaboration with global partners is key to fostering shared platforms and efficient processes. The Director will also lead and develop a high-performing team, ensuring alignment with company values and strategic goals. Budget oversight and organizational planning are essential to support product and financial objectives.

  What You Drive at DTNA

  • Responsible for the design, CAE, optimization and validation of engines for North American applications of DTAG to ensure efficient power delivery, durability, NVH characteristics, and seamless integration with the full powertrain and vehicle.

  • The department is integrated in the global R&D organization for design optimizations, simulation, testing, and cross-functional collaboration to meet performance, regulatory, and customer requirements with focus on the North American market.

  • Drive issue resolution and continuous improvement during the project phase of development as well as series production.  Actively monitor field topics and warranty and work collaboratively with other cross functions to drive topic closure.

  • Drive the global use and evolution of Master DVP&Rs for proper component validation.  Develop advanced testing methods to improve efficiency and quality.  Drive the development and use of standardized tools for powertrain development such as eDVPR and GTRS.

  • Drive & foster global collaboration, platforms and efficient processes in collaboration with global partners

  • Based on the company's values and mission statement, lead, motivate, and support assigned employees through target agreements and performance evaluations. Ensure targeted internal communication to achieve the agreed objectives. Guarantee employee- and task-related qualifications. Inform assigned employees about applicable regulations and instruct them to comply. Ensure proper implementation.

  • In collaboration with funding management, ensure that department budget targets are met and organizational structure is appropriate to meet product, project, and financial goals

  

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field 

  • 10+ years of engineering experience in the Automotive or Commercial Vehicle Industry.

  • 5+ years of relevant management experience in engineering development and/or project teams

  • Extensive professional experience in the mechanical development of more complex mechanical components and systems and their integration into vehicles within the automotive environment.

  • Experience in system design and validation for engines.

  • Experience in engineering relevant operational planning and execution.

  • Experience scouting and developing component suppliers and in-house development processes with emphasis on safety practices.

  • Skills to lead, coach and develop leaders and teams based on the GLBs and policies of DTB

  • Ability to facilitate and negotiate with colleagues and/or suppliers globally to drive the best decisions for our products or people.

  • Ability to work in a truly global environment; to collaborate successfully for strategy development and process execution.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%

  • Please note this role is open for local contract only and not eligible for Expat assignment.
