Position Summary:
The School Social Worker assists students with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional-environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, school principals, and community based resources, the School Social Worker implements strategies that promote students' positie school adjustment.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Identifies and assesses academic problems through analysis of factors impinging on student adjustment including factors in the home, school, and community.
- Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting.
- Determines and implements appropriate strategies to effect changes in behavioral-social interactions of students and their families.
- Provides individual and group supportive counseling to students and their families.
- Provides educational workshops to parents/guardians on identified issues related to child development, stress reduction, discipline and safety, and teacher/parent/student communication.
- Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning.
- Participate as a member of the IEP, IST, and other school based teams to develop interventions for promoting students’ academic success.
- Provides social work case management for students and families.
- Provides staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning process.
- Develops programs to address parent/guardian participation in the school and student engagement in the educational process.
- Maintains required records and submits appropriate documents for statistical reports with adherence to program standards in school social work and funding source requirements.
- Conducts home visits related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues.
- Serves as liaison with community agencies and assists in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians, and community leaders.
- Locates and mobilizes community resources to support the educational program.
- Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

- Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students and patrons of the District
- Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage
- Knowledge of PA Core Standards and eligible content
- Knowledge of Instructional Planning Guides as it relates to the instructional block
- Knowledge of Digital Curriculum components
- Ability to courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to technology-infused lessons of rigor
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parentsor guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment
- Ability to receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in Social Work required.
- Valid Pennsylvania Certification: PK-12 School Social Worker Educational Specialist OR Educational Specialist Home and School Visitor PK-12.
Pre-employment Requirements:
- Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, FBI fingerprinting Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
- Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release (ACT 168)
- Completion of Act 126 Mandatory Reporter Training
- School Personnel Health Record and TB test
Physical Requirements:
- Work schedule hours on a consistent basis
- Indoor office environment is subject to frequent interruptions
- Pushing, moving and lifting objects with a strength factor of light work
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment
- Clarity of vision at varying distances
- Verbal, auditory and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
- Sitting and standing for extended periods of time
- Frequent sitting, standing and walking
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies

Level of Compensation: $50,726 - 103,534 (dependent on Step and Track placement as determined based on collective bargaining agreements)
