Role Description:

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Associate Engineer’s primary role will be to evaluate beverage can and end tooling. The ideal candidate will have experience operating testing equipment and metrology, with the goal of improving tooling inspection capability. This role will support lab's engineering operations by setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment, performing technical evaluations, and collaborating with other engineers on various beverage can and beverage end projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Laboratory Manager to improve tooling inspection capability by developing new procedures, designing new fixtures and purchasing appropriate measurement equipment needed to expand and upgrade lab capabilities.
  • Independently performs tooling inspection and analysis to support manufacturing, engineering functions and qualify tooling vendors. 
  • Ability to read, understand and apply engineering CAD drawing information to tooling and can/end inspections.
  • Independently executes testing procedures for cans and ends including dimensional analysis and physical performance testing.
  • Write detailed reports that thoroughly document findings.  This includes statistical analysis, detailed inspection results and data interpretation.
  • Assist team members with ISO laboratory standards compliance.

Requirements:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • 1-5 years’ experience with precision measurement systems and equipment used to measure form, position and contour profile of parts/products is strongly desired.
  • Basic understanding of statistics is required.
  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in engineering drawings required.
  • Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft suite programs is required.  Experience with statistical programs (JMP, Minitab, Tableau, Base SAS, XLSTAT, etc) is desired.
  • Strong report writing skills are desired.
  • Experience measuring with micrometers and other dimensional gages is desired. 
  • Familiarity with gage R&R studies is desired.
  • Detail oriented, self-starter, trainable, team player, good communicator.

The anticipated base annual salary range for this role is between $70,400 and $105,600  per year.  This role is bonus eligible. The bonus incentive program is based on company meeting or exceeding targets. Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate and is only applicable for roles that are based out of Illinois. The final salary will be determined after considering relevant factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and work location, where appropriate.
