Job Summary

Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $113,800 - $242,800 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Masters' Degree in clinical genetic counseling
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise a team and to manage the complex workflow and competing priorities involved with providing quality care as a genetic counselor
  • Knowledge of relevant medical center, HR and UC policies and processes
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document staff issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment
  • Solid organizational and customer service skills to structure unit operations and lead assigned staff in an efficient and effective manner
  • Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively, coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills to explain technical genetic concepts and communicate sensitive information to patients and families
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Solid knowledge of organization's genetic counseling application programs to troubleshoot issues and recommend improvements in convenience and efficiency
