Essential functions (job duties):

Located inMidtown Detroit, the Department of Computer Science in James and Patricia Anderson College ofEngineering at Wayne State University (WSU) invites applications for anopen-rank tenure-track faculty position, beginning in Fall 2026. For seniorcandidates, appointment with tenure is possible. We particularly encourageapplications from candidates whose research focuses on Computer Systems (including real-time and embedded systems, distributed systems, networking,high-performance and parallel computing, Internet of Things, and computerarchitecture) or Software Engineering (including program analysis,software testing, maintenance and evolution, software security, human aspectsof software engineering, and data-drive/AI approaches to improving software quality andproductivity). Outstanding candidates whose expertise complements existingdepartmental strengths in areas such as artificial intelligence, smartmobility, and autonomous driving will receive special consideration.

 

Unique duties:

The Department of Computer Science at Wayne State has 24 tenure-track faculty and 7 teaching faculty, with 5 NSF CAREER awards and over $2.5M in annual research expenditure. The Department offers two B.S. degree programs, several M.S. degree programs (traditional and online), including M.S. in AI, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science. Currently, we have approximately 1,000 undergraduate students,120 M.S. and 60 Ph.D. students. The department is committed to building a diverse faculty preeminent in its missions of research, teaching, and service to the community. Candidates who have experience engaging with diverse faculty, staff, and students, and contributing to an inclusive environment may share their perspectives on these subjects in their application materials. Detroit epitomizes the modern, livable, vibrant, and diverse city. World-class amenities like the US-Canada riverfront, Detroit Institute of Arts, culture venues and festivals, as well as an international airport (DTW) that flies non-stop to world-wide destinations. There are several satellite cities within 25 miles of metro-Detroit that are ranked as the top-100 most suitable for living cities (e.g., Troy, Ann Arbor, Birmingham, Novi) with the nation’s finest school districts.

Qualifications:

Candidatesshould hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field anddemonstrate a strong potentialfor excellence in both research and teaching.
