The Engineering Manager will provide technical guidance, process improvement leadership, and development of engineering capabilities while fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement. The Engineering Manager will mentor and develop engineers, equipping them with the skills and tools necessary to excel individually and as a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain engineering and design standards, drawing conventions, and workmanship criteria for all assemblies, including DFM/DFA, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure timely and accurate document development, revision, and control, including ECNs, ECOs, ECRs, and Engineering Document Release.
- Oversee design improvements, BOM changes, and New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
- Lead and document failure analysis and root cause investigations to drive continuous improvement in design quality.
- Develop and maintain a centralized Engineering Standards Manual defining materials, components, test methods, and design protocols specific to fluid systems solutions.
- Lead process improvement initiatives related to existing manufacturing processes, including Lean and Six Sigma efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement additional capabilities such as production fixtures, clean room welding, and test fixture improvements.
- Drive cost reduction efforts in collaboration with Estimating and Supply Chain teams.
- Ensure ISO compliance, including procedures, processes, policies, working instructions, and training documentation creation.
- Partner with Sales and Operations to improve and expand Assembly Services capabilities.
- Expand Assembly Solutions in the Semiconductor and General Industrial markets, working with Operations and Sales to design scalable solutions that align with customer needs.
- Provide project management oversight for the engineering group, ensuring timely execution of internal and customer-facing projects, including resource allocation, milestone tracking, and risk mitigation.
- Oversee formal design reviews, ensuring that application and field engineers adhere to quality standards, customer requirements, and Swagelok design principles.
- Ensure the Engineering team’s involvement with and execution of activities related to quoting, BOM creation and activities performed in B1 are compliant with the company’s procedures and data governance requirements.
- Collaborate with Sales on opportunities in the field with key customers, bringing engineering expertise to customer meetings, value assessments, and project scoping sessions.
- Educate yourself in a self-paced program to improve business acumen, management and leadership skills, knowledge of the Swagelok organization, and market opportunities.
- Interview, hire, and train new staff in the department.
- Oversee the efficient and effective daily operations of the department.
- Lead, coach, and mentor engineers, fostering professional development, technical skill-building, and career growth.
- Administer associate operations to ensure basic workstation needs, payroll, vacation planning, training, safety, and operational process control.
- Conduct regular performance conversations with all associates that include a review of department goals, current metrics, and the associates’ customized training plan in relation to the requirements of the position description and department.
- Promote technical, interpersonal, and educational development of associates through formal training programs, on-the-job training, rotational assignments, and continuous learning opportunities wherever possible.
- Monitor and incentivize associate performance, providing ongoing verbal and written feedback.
- Provide evidence-based written communication of performance or behavior concerns as necessary to ensure fair and transparent supervision of staff.
- Maintain fair and consistent application of all company policies and procedures.
- Translate company goals, expectations, and communications so that associates clearly understand and feel motivated to align with them.
- Resolve conflicts and associate concerns through appropriate techniques and channels of communication.
- Directly oversee Application Engineers and Field Engineers, ensuring strong alignment between technical execution, customer support, and market growth strategies.

Education, Experience, Skills & Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (required)
- Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement certification (preferred)
- Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA) or equivalent design quality certification (preferred)
- 10+ years of Engineering experience (required)
- 5+ years leading technical teams, with proven coaching and people development success (required)
- Product design & development experience (required)
- Experience collaborating with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure design-for-manufacture and compliance (required). Manufacturing operations and quality systems experience (required)
- Semiconductor equipment gas & liquid delivery system experience (preferred)
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop technical talent
- High level of proficiency with CAD programs and analytical software
- Strong problem-solving and analytic ability
