Custodial Area Supervisor at Hampton City Schools

  Supervise, evaluate, and support lead custodians and custodial staff across assigned schools.

      
    
•     

  Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with cleanliness, safety, and maintenance standards.

      
    
•     

  Develop and monitor work schedules, staffing assignments, and shift coverage to meet school needs.

      
    
•     

  Ensure timely action is taken to complete open work orders and to resolve items identified during building reviews.

      
    
•     

  Provide training and professional development for custodial staff in cleaning techniques, equipment uses, and safety protocols.

      
    
•     

  Coordinate with school principals and administrators regarding facility needs, event preparation, and emergency response.

      
    
•     

  Monitor supply inventory, approve orders, and ensure proper use and storage of custodial equipment and chemicals.

      
    
•     

  Assist in providing new custodial employee orientation training.

      
    
•     

  Coordinates floating custodial staff work assignments

      
    
•     

  Recommend and implement improvements in custodial operations for efficiency and effectiveness.

      
    
•     

  Address performance issues and provide coaching to custodial staff

      
    
•     

  Ensure compliance with OSHA, district safety standards, and state/federal regulations regarding facility care.

      
    
•     

  Respond to after-hours emergencies or urgent facility needs within the assigned area.

      
    
•     

  Prepare reports on custodial performance, work orders, staffing, and supply usage as required.

      

    
• Ability to learn and operate various types of computer programs that will enhance and make more efficient the operation, record keeping, and statistical analysis of all aspects of the custodial/pest control services position.
    
•     

  Familiar with operating principles of firefighting equipment and security alarm systems in school buildings.

      
    
•     

  Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate staff effectively.

      
    
•     

  Skilled in scheduling, time management, and coordinating multiple work sites.

      
    
•     

  Physical ability to perform custodial tasks as needed (lifting up to 60 lbs and 35 pounds above the head.

      
    
•     

  Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tools and/or other equipment.

      
    
•     

  Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

      

QUALIFICATIONS:

    
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in facilities management or related field preferred.

    
•     

  Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

      
    
•     

  Minimum of 3–5 years of custodial experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

      

    
• Knowledge of custodial methods, cleaning equipment, and proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
