Are you an Engineer that wants to be a part of leaving a lasting legacy by working on designs related to the world’s largest ecosystem restoration efforts and the thousands of miles of canals and levees and hundreds of existing water control structures and pump stations that provide flood protection for 9 million residents? We’re looking for a self-motivated, detail oriented candidate that would enjoy working with a team of professionals to participate in design reviews and creation of standards for implementation of the District’s $4.5 BILLION capital improvement program. The successful candidate strives to ensure high quality designs of complex projects and assist in streamlining the processes for others to design to our standards. Must possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), strong interpersonal skills and must be able to multi-task and provide guidance and leadership to others on the team to meet assigned deadlines.

This position will be involved in review of designs prepared by others and setting standards for the construction of our unique facilities to support the existing water management system and the building of water storage impoundments, constructed wetlands, and other infrastructure to support the restoration of America’s Everglades. 
The primary role of this position is updating engineering standards in a multi-discipline team setting and interacting with the end users responsible for operating and maintaining our infrastructure to ensure adaptation of the standards improves the reliability and maintainability of the District’s constructed infrastructure. May occasionally prepare design deliverables including to serve as the Engineer of Record for designs that are performed within the candidate’s engineering discipline.

Engineering services and decisions are made based on a diversified knowledge of theories, precepts, concepts, and practices related to a specific discipline. In addition, incumbent has solid working knowledge of standards and practices for related engineering disciplines. Incumbent demonstrates extensive technical expertise and experience in one of the following roles for the District. 
  • 1. Discipline Expert that develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of engineering projects and initiatives. Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products and equipment. Identifies errors/malfunctions/omissions and implements corrective actions. 
 
  • 2. Discipline Consultant that performs complex research and/or completes innovative engineering assignments that require the development of new and/or improved techniques and procedures. 
In any of these roles, incumbent applies technical expertise to proactively identify and resolve issues, discrepancies and problems of any nature related to assigned engineering and construction projects or processes. 
Incumbent supports District emergency management operations, typically, as a public assistance coordinator who prioritizes, consolidates and coordinates damage assessment teams. May perform other relevant emergency management operations. 

Supervision received relates largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and District initiatives. Work product is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment. Incumbent keeps abreast of industry and discipline trends/developments.
 
May be filled as a Lead Engineer, Senior Engineer, Engineer-Staff, Engineering Specialist 4, Engineering/Construction Manager- Lead, Engineering/Construction Manager- Senior, or Engineering/Construction Specialist- Senior

Employment Guidelines: 

Lead Engineer: Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 8+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives. Disciplines for engineering education and experience requirements 
include Civil, Construction, Electrical, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering. Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
 
Senior Engineer: Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 6+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives. Disciplines for engineering education and experience requirements 
include Civil, Construction, Electrical, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering. Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
 
Engineering Specialist 4:  Bachelor's Degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program and 4+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within engineering discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives. Disciplines for engineering education and experience requirements 
include Civil, Construction, Electrical, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering. Incumbent continues the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer license by receipt of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation and continuing to accumulate acceptable experience for work time 
licensure requirements. 

Engineering/Construction Manager- Lead: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline such as but not limited to Civil, Construction or Structural Engineering and 8+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression that can be applied to support the Engineering & Construction Bureau’s work plan and the District’s business plans and strategies. Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Engineering/Construction Manager- Senior: Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline such as but not limited to Civil, Construction or Structural Engineering and 6+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression that can be applied to support the Engineering & Construction Bureau’s work plan and the District’s business plans and strategies. Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Engineering/Construction Specialist- Senior:  Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline such as but not limited to Civil, Construction or Structural Engineering and 4+ years experience that demonstrates measurable career and technical progression that can be applied to support the Engineering & Construction Bureau’s work plan and the District’s business plans and strategies. Incumbent pursing the process for attaining State of Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

License(s) / Certification(s): 
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
