About Us: Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park is a college-preparatory STEM-focused charter school dedicated to preparing students for success in college, careers, and life. Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program provides students with hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom knowledge to real-world applications.
We are seeking a passionate and motivated CTE Health Science Teacher to join our dynamic team and inspire students to explore careers in health and medical fields.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Nursing, Biology, or related field (required).
Valid CTE Health Science Educator License.
Previous teaching or industry experience in the healthcare field is preferred.
Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide rigorous instruction aligned with CTE clusters, career pathways, and skill competencies relevant to the Health Science program.
Keep the curriculum updated with current industry trends to ensure relevance and accuracy.
Integrate two team-based challenges to promote problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking.
Participate in career events such as job fairs and guest speaker sessions.
Establish connections with industry professionals, organizations, and businesses to enhance student learning opportunities.
Engage in advisory committee meetings to provide feedback on program development and industry alignment.
Design and facilitate two career exploration activities to expose students to various career paths within the healthcare industry.
Build partnerships with local businesses and professionals for internships and work-based learning experiences.
Identify and secure internship opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience.
Monitor and evaluate internship experiences for student growth and industry relevance.
Collaborate with internship coordinators or administration to ensure students are supported in placement and mentoring.
Maintain relationships with postsecondary institutions to establish dual credit opportunities for students.
Attend professional development (PD) sessions to stay current on teaching strategies and industry practices.
Participate in monthly meetings with the Assistant Principal of STEM & CTE to discuss program progress and improvement.
Attend at least three advisory committee meetings annually as required for CTE program oversight.
Ensure all teaching, curriculum, and internship activities comply with ISBE CTE requirements.
Provide documentation and reporting as necessary for CTE funding and program evaluations.
