JOB TITLE:                  Business Intelligence and Data Analyst

DEPARTMENT:        Computer Services/Marketing

REPORTS TO:            Senior Business Intelligence Analyst

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Specialist plays a key role in transforming data into actionable insights that support the university’s enrollment, marketing, advancement, and retention strategies. This position manages Slate CRM data reporting, integrations, and visualization, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and strategic use of information across departments. The specialist partners closely with Admissions, Financial Aid, Marketing, Institutional Research, and Advancement to improve operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making across the student and alumni lifecycle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, build, and maintain Slate reports, queries, and dashboards to support daily operations and long-term strategic goals in enrollment and advancement.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity through regular audits, reconciliations, and documentation of data flows.
  • Develop standardized reporting frameworks and KPIs for leadership and departmental use.
  • Translate raw data into meaningful insights through data visualization and storytelling for Admissions, Advancement, and institutional leadership, as well as external audiences.
  • Write, develop, and maintain integrations between Slate and other university systems (e.g., Colleague, Oracle, Power BI, or external vendors). Ability to create ETL (extract/transform/load) processes as needed.
  • Manage data imports, exports, and secure file transfers (SFTP/API) to support operational needs and system interoperability.
  • Collaborate with Computer Services, Slate administrators, and Advancement data teams to troubleshoot integration issues and enhance automation.
  • Monitor and document integration workflows to ensure ongoing accuracy, reliability, and compliance.
  • Promote a university centric data system that allows all users access to relevant information regardless of the system of record. Ensure the implementation of common data definitions across systems. Promote the flow of data between systems to support individual business unit needs.
  • Build predictive and comparative models that support enrollment goal setting, alumni engagement tracking, and fundraising analysis.
  • Partner with Enrollment and Advancement leadership to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach and communication strategies by analyzing application, admit, deposit, giving, and engagement trends.
  • Work collaboratively with Institutional Research, Admissions, Marketing, Financial Aid, and Advancement teams to align data strategies across the university.
  • Provide data support for board reports, cabinet updates, advancement campaigns, accreditation, and compliance needs.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement through data transparency, efficiency, and insight-driven planning.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A clear understanding and commitment to the Reformed perspective and mission of Dordt University and ability to clearly articulate and communicate the mission effectively.

  • BA degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • High level of proficiency in using database software.
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL, XML, data architecture, and JavaScript is essential.  
  • Data analytics tools, such as Power BI, reporting and analytics are desirable.  Candidates without direct experience but with proven analytical or technical aptitude and a willingness to learn may be considered.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Liquid markup will be considered an advantage.
