The Department ofBiological Sciences at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU)invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Microbiology & Parasitology, at the rank of Assistant Professor level, startingin August 2026. We encourage applicants with interests in any area related toMicrobiology or Parasitology to apply. The successful candidate shouldhave excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to teachingand mentoring diverse student populations, and a strong interest in servingstudents, the department, the university, and the broader community in acollegial, multidisciplinary environment.

The Department ofBiological Sciences offers a quality education with a breadth of courses andopportunities for students to gain laboratory and field experience. Studentsmay earn a B.S. in Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Studies, MarineScience, or Medical Technology. Concentrations within the B.S. in Biologyinclude pre-professional programs, such as the Pre-Physician Assistantconcentration, to prepare students for careers in the health professions and abiology secondary education program leading to teacher certification. Inaddition, the department offers an M.S. in Biology. Our state-of-the-artfacilities include applied biotechnology labs and a cell culture lab,supporting research across fields such as genetics, molecular biology,microbiology and biotechnology. Scholarly activities are supported by bothinternal and external funding opportunities.

Responsibilities:  

  • Teaching responsibilities will include courses in Microbiology (both lecture and lab) and Parasitology. Depending on the departmental needs, additional teaching responsibilities may include Introductory Biology I and II, Immunology, and Mechanisms of Disease. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop upper-level courses in their area of expertise. The teaching course load is 24 contact hours per academic year.
  • Coordinating our Medical Technology major and Laboratory Medicine concentration in the Biology major.
  • Establishing and maintaining an active research program in their expertise. This program should actively involve undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Contribute to the M.S. program in biology by teaching graduate-level courses, mentoring student research, and serving on graduate student committees.
  • Serve on departmental and university-wide committees.

Qualifications:  

  • Ph.D. in Microbiology or related field. Applicants with all but the dissertation (ABD) will be considered, provided that the doctoral degree is awarded by August 2026.
  • College teaching experience is required, with a demonstrated ability to teach both lecture and lab courses in Microbiology.
  • An active track record of scholarly work in the field of expertise.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College-level teaching experience in both lecture and lab courses in Parasitology.
  • A demonstrated ability to involve undergraduate or graduate students in research.
  • Experience in undergraduate academic advising.
  • Experience and strong dedication to working with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to implement active learning techniques in teaching practices.
