Position Overview
Under direction of the Manager of Security Operations, responsible for assisting in establishing and administering systems and procedures to provide the comprehensive security and safety of all company property, buildings, personnel, and visitors. Duties include planning, supervising, and coordinating Security Operations on a 24-hour basis. Investigates and reports on security issues as required to the Manager of Security Operations. Oversees departmental training program, cross training program, and field training program.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists the Manager of Security Operations with the administration of department personnel policies involving hiring, daily supervision, evaluation and disciplinary action.
- Manages all aspects of the Security Operations Center.
- Schedules department staff, including overtime details to assure adequate security presence at all times.
- Provides leadership, mentoring, coaching and education to develop and maintain an effective, well trained staff based on performance standards.
- Assists Manager of Security Operations in researching and developing policy and procedures; recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives.
- In cooperation with the Manager of Security Operations, administers and controls costs related to department operations.
- Assists with department records keeping and management.
- Designs, schedules, reports and tracks training of security personnel.
- Assists Manager of Security Operations in leading investigations and/or coordinating investigations with appropriate departments and outside agencies.
- As the department firearms instructor, responsible for developing duty weapons qualification requirements and delivering weapons-related tests, instruction and training to all commissioned security personnel; inspects/approves duty weapons and keeps records of firearms proficiency and training.
- Assists in hiring qualified employees by participating in the interview process and making recommendations regarding the employment of applicants.
- Reviews incident reports, required forms, and related documents prepared by subordinates to ensure accuracy and timely completion; corrects or instructs officers to make corrections.
- In cooperation with the Manager of Security Operations, establishes and maintains partnerships with appropriate local, state and federal law enforcement officials.
- Collaborates with Manager of Security Operations to ensure employee and company compliance with all Texas private security statutes and rules.
- Assists departmental leadership in the disciplinary process and staff performance appraisals.
- Works in environments and under conditions that require carrying authorized weapons and ammunition, the use of protective gear and devices, and awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
- If certified as a Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT), may be required to perform evidential breath alcohol testing in the absence of trained medical personnel.
- Maintains proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraint devices and weapons.
- Manages Security Operations equipment to make sure it is appropriate, up to date, and functional.
- Attends training and other required company functions.
- Performs special duties as required and assigned.
- Oversees departmental training program, cross training program, and field training program.
- Direct report for Security Supervisors and Departmental Training Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Education: Associate’s degree or a minimum of sixty (60) post-secondary credits supplemented by college level coursework and specialized training in law enforcement, military leadership, criminal justice, security, emergency management and/or a related field; or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and training.
- Experience: Seven (7) years security, military, law enforcement and/or other equivalent experience with a minimum two-years in a supervisory role that demonstrated personal leadership effectiveness; or a satisfactory equivalent combination of knowledge and experience. Knowledge and experience with security systems, cameras, visitor management systems, access controls and other security programs and related equipment required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety and security laws, rules and regulations; ability to formulate, develop, implement and supervise a multi-scale security program.
- Successful completion of employment background check and medical screening.
- Has or is able to obtain proof of completion of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory test (proof of completion of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory test shall be on the prescribed form Declaration of Psychological and Emotional Health and shall be signed by a licensed psychologist).
- Has or is able to obtain Level III Commissioned Security Officer and PPO licenses.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with key management personnel, associates, subordinates and the general public.
- Ability to multi-task; focusing on long term projects while still accomplishing the day-to-day requirements of the job.
- Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
- Ability to analyze security and safety risks and make appropriate recommendations.
- Must have a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record that conforms to the company's insurance policy and requirements.
- Must be able to meet and continue to meet all applicable state licensing requirements for commissioned security officers.
- Ability to utilize rapid and effective judgment in responding to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force level.
- Effective interpersonal skills; specifically, for addressing potential conflicts.
- Effective communication skills to express ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
- Ability to understand and interface with different forms of technology (access control systems, camera systems, etc.)
- Ability to work overtime and all shifts (day, evening, night, weekends and holidays) as needed.
- Ability to take charge while responding professionally and calmly in emergency situations.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to assume a variety of bodily positions and postures possibly for long periods of time to include sitting, standing, bending, reaching, leaning, pushing, pulling, grasping, turning, twisting, lifting and walking. Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move objects up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with duty weapons.
- Must be able to operate vehicle in a safe and prudent manner.
- Must be able to react and move rapidly from a sedentary to active condition in response to environmental or duty-related situations or events.
- Must be able to perform required duties for extended periods of time to include time worked in excess of the normal daily day shift or rotating shift work.
- Must have auditory capability to hear alarms, monitors, intruders, etc.; must have olfactory capability to smell dangerous gases, fires, etc. Requires good eyesight (corrective lenses may be used) with accurate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
