JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:  Under the direction of the Material’s Manager, the Materials Supervisor oversees the hourly workforce to ensure a safe workplace and effective receiving, warehousing, picking, shipping, general material handling, and inventory control processes.  While in accordance with company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Always prioritize Safety first. Ensure safety initiatives are being met.  Provide thorough investigations and follow-up to safety-related incidents.  Work with peer Supervisors and Managers to coordinate safety activities.

Create and sustain a positive and healthy work environment with the use of the Servant Leadership Model.

Create and sustain a culture of Continuous Improvement through Lean Improvement training and activities.

Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise the assigned hourly production employees to ensure the control, movement, and provision of parts and products. Work as a team with other supervisors to fulfill staffing requirements.  Manage the Materials Team across multiple shifts and coordinate interplant material movements and staff assignments.

Support and enhance inventory accuracy improvement initiatives.  Conduct root cause problem solving to determine and carry out effective corrective actions.  Lead team in proactive measures conducting audits of inventory locations and processes to ensure seamless supply of materials as required.

Effectively organize and control warehouses, work in process, and optimize equipment and labor assignments.  Maximize material flow and minimize indirect labor costs.

Review parts shortages with area supervisors (and purchasing if applicable).  Conduct or assign appropriate search measures, escalating accordingly, and making inventory adjustments as appropriate.  Effectively and proactively communicate with internal customers throughout. Coordinate appropriate material routing and expediting.

Ensure training of new and current employees in processes and methods required to achieve company standards for safety, quality and efficiency.  Ensure compliance to ISO 9001 quality standard.

Develop, recommend, and implement departmental policies and procedures, processes and methods per ISO 9001 quality standard.

Participate in planning/project meetings or cross-functional teams. Be actively involved with company lean and continuous improvement initiatives. 

Interpret and execute ECN’s (Engineering Change Notices) as they impact respective inventory.

Evaluate processes and methods, recommend improvement measures for production, equipment, utilization of employees and product quality.

Act as a technical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems; analyze and resolve work problems and assist employees in solving challenges or conflicts.

Effectively and professionally communicate to all subordinates, peers and superiors. 

Maintain departmental supplies, tools, equipment, and order as necessary.

Ensure proper completion of all departmental and plant documents, safety incident forms, including production sheets, pick sheets, quality control inspection sheets, scrap tickets, vacation requests, safety inspection forms, etc.

Establish and Maintain 6S departmental standards and processes.

Handle informal grievances and assist in the settlement of formal grievances.  Develop and maintain positive employee relations and ensure open lines of communication with employees.  Constructively deals with conflict.  Always maintain a positive attitude. 

Attend and actively participate in all assigned meetings and committees.

Participate in providing tours to customers, vendors and existing employees.
