Scientist 2- Hydrogeology at South Florida Water Management District

This scientist position directly supports the strategic initiatives of the Water Use Bureau and is responsible for performing a wide range of scientific work related to compliance with water use permits issued under Part II of Chapter 373, Florida Statutes.  The position requires a solid working knowledge of hydrogeologic concepts, methods and practices developed through a combination of education, on-the-job experience, and formal training programs.  In addition, the position requires demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment; proven ability to be detail oriented and organized as well as articulate credibly and professionally in written and verbal format with the regulated community, the public, federal, state and local entities and District staff at all levels relative to regulatory permit and compliance issues.  

Compliance Analyst responsibilities include, but are not limited to: performing compliance reviews/analysis for assigned permits; conducting field (onsite) visits as needed; providing assistance and training regarding permit compliance requirements and how to gather and submit data/reports; building and fostering close working relationships; reviewing and analyzing monitoring data in support of water shortage activities; participating in collaborative efforts with other areas of the Bureau and District providing information and/or data gathering and attending meetings and providing input relative to areas of expertise; and providing back-up assistance where needed. 

Depending on the nature and complexity of the work, tasks and assignments are performed under moderate to close supervision with specific instructions provided.  Work products are reviewed for technical accuracy and overall quality, as well as application of sound professional judgment. 
Employment Guidelines: 

Scientist 2: Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology or related field and 1+ years of related relative experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within the scientific discipline that can be applied to support the District’s strategic goals and objectives. 

Scientist 1: Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology or related field and less than 1 year of related experience that demonstrates measurable career progression within the scientific discipline that can be applied to support the District's strategic goals and objectives.  Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental or Agricultural Engineering or related field may also be considered. 

License(s) / Certification(s): 
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.

Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and the total scope of emergency management, this position may, at times, be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and other declared emergencies, depending on the assigned emergency response role.
