JOB TITLE: Inventory Slotting Supervisor

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Inventory Slotting Supervisor is responsible for managing the efficient placement and movement of products within a warehouse or distribution center to optimize storage, minimize handling costs, and improve inventory turnover. This role requires in-depth knowledge of inventory management, warehouse operations, and slotting techniques to ensure that products are stored in the most effective locations, facilitating faster picking and shipping processes and reducing overall inventory replenishment tasks.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Slotting Strategy Development:
· Develop and implement slotting strategies to optimize product placement, ensuring that fast-moving items are easily accessible and stored in locations that maximize picking efficiency
· Utilize inventory data, sales forecasts, and product attributes to determine ideal storage locations
· Analyze historical inventory movements and trends to inform future slotting decisions
· Create slotting move tasks and follow up with site operations to ensure proper execution
Inventory Management:
· Monitor inventory levels to ensure that products are accurately represented in the warehouse, maintaining optimal stock levels for demand forecasting.
· Collaborate with the inventory control team to identify slow-moving or obsolete products and determine appropriate actions
Warehouse Layout Optimization:
· Assess the warehouse layout regularly to ensure maximum space utilization and that it supports an efficient picking process.
· Make recommendations for warehouse reorganization when necessary, balancing storage capacity with operational efficiency.
· Work closely with warehouse managers and operations teams to ensure that slotting changes are smoothly executed.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
· Analyze inventory turnover data, order picking times, and replenishment rates to optimize slotting decisions.
· Produce regular reports on inventory performance, slotting efficiency, and any operational issues related to product placement.
· Use data-driven insights to recommend adjustments in product storage and handling processes.
Collaboration & Communication:
· Work cross-functionally with the purchasing, sales, and operations teams to align on product demand and slotting requirements.
· Communicate slotting changes or inventory updates to the operations team to ensure smooth transitions and minimal disruptions to workflows.
· Provide training and guidance to warehouse staff on optimal slotting practices and inventory handling techniques.
Continuous Improvement:
· Continuously assess current slotting practices and identify areas for improvement to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
· Stay up to date with industry best practices, technological advancements, and inventory management trends to ensure the warehouse operates at peak efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
· Proven experience in inventory management, warehouse operations, or supply chain management.
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
· Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory software.
· Knowledge of lean inventory principles, slotting techniques, and best practices.
· Strong organizational and communication skills.
· Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate effectively with different departments.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience with data analytics tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Databricks).
· Knowledge of advanced slotting algorithms or machine learning applications for warehouse optimization.
· Certification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., APICS, Six Sigma) is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Prolonged periods of standing/walking.
· Occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 50lbs. but you can get help when you need it.
· Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
· Continually required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.
· Continually work near moving mechanical parts
· Occasional loud noise, but not that often
· Occasionally varied environmental temperature changes, but not much because remember, wine likes to stay cool.
