Stratford Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Tutor to provide individualized and small-group language instruction to multilingual learners in grades K–12. The ESOL Tutor will support students’ English language development in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, while fostering academic engagement and confidence in an inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted English language instruction aligned with CELP (Connecticut English Language Proficiency) Standards.
Support multilingual learners in accessing grade-level content across subject areas.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement effective scaffolding and sheltered instruction strategies.
Monitor student progress and document instructional goals and outcomes.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
Encourage students’ social-emotional growth, cultural identity, and participation in the school community.
Participate in professional learning opportunities related to ESOL instruction, translanguaging pedagogy, and culturally responsive practices.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree (education or related field preferred)
Experience working with English learners or in a multilingual classroom setting is preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally sustaining practices
Preferred:
TESOL certification or coursework in applied linguistics, bilingual education, or related field
Familiarity with CELP Standards, SIOP Model, or dual language education frameworks
Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or other languages represented in the district)
Schedule and Compensation
Part-time position; schedule determined by student and school needs (5 hours a day, Monday to Friday)
Position will be split between Franklin Elementary School and Wooster Middle School
Compensation: $35 per hour (based on district salary scale)
