Position Title: Elementary Behavior Support Assistant

NATURE OF WORK
The Elementary Support Assistant provides specific and intensive support to assigned students who exhibit challenging behavioral concerns. This includes direct in class and out of class support, working with students to teach appropriate replacement behaviors, and utilizing effective behavior management strategies to ensure student safety and success. Must be eligible for school bus driver’s license (CDL).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a minimum 48 semester hours of college transfer credits.
Applicants should have previous experiences in working with children, preferably with students with disabilities related to mental health and behavioral disorders

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Behavior Support Assistants (BSA) will have a specific school assignment as determined by the Exceptional Children’s Department.
Provide direct in class and out of class support to assigned student(s). Support may include, but not limited to, face to face support, walks in designated school areas, talks in helping to verbally deescalate.
Monitor/supervise students in a variety of school environments (classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, cafeterias, and during transitions)
Maintain appropriate documentation (record keeping and computer skills) regarding behavioral supports provided to identified students with significant behavioral challenges issues/concerns regarding student interactions, teacher contact, gathering behavior charting from staff, therapeutic interventions, etc.
Effectively communicate with teachers, administration and Special Education staff for identified students with disabilities (SWD) exhibiting intense behavioral needs.
Assist with triaging student(s) upon school arrival and departure.
Work 1:1 or in small group with students with identified students with disabilities on improving behaviors in the school setting
Implement behavior intervention plan and reinforcement strategies (i.e. BIP, MAP) outlined in student’s individualized education plan and document effectiveness of strategies
Provide and collaborate with the EC teacher in the implementation of social skills lessons.
Model and implement appropriate interventions (verbal de-escalation strategies, coping skills, etc.), problem solve, and work with identified students with behavioral challenges within the school environment and/or returning to the general education setting
Daily contact with teachers / staff to discuss student problems/concerns
Maintain professional competency within the school and CONFIDENTIALITY of information.
Participate in professional development and staff meetings related to student support
Crisis Prevention Training as required by the district
Maintain bus license and accept bus driver assignments as needed
