The Covenant Day School Athletics Department is seeking a varsity boys head football coach to begin working with the team for the coming 2025-2026 academic year and will lead the football program for Covenant Day School in alignment with the school’s mission and vision. A successful candidate will emphasize Christ-centered community and competition, be a gatherer/builder, be excellent at building appropriate relationships and mentoring students, have the respect and admiration of parents, and have a high football IQ and ability to coach athletes to achieve their best. The coach will maintain a positive and encouraging presence on campus to grow and move the CDS football program forward in excellence. Reporting to the Athletic Director, the position is part-time and seasonal in nature.

- Partner with the Athletic Director to provide leadership and vision for Covenant Day School’s football program; lead and mentor assistant coaches as well as JV and middle school coaches to have an integrated program with shared vision and focus
- Partner with lower, middle and high school divisions to build team culture and interest in the football program across the school; for example ensure lower school football clinics are in place from year to year
- Must be well versed in all aspects of football; football playing experience in High School or above levels strongly desired; coaching experience required along with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of coaching
- Attend and lead all scheduled football practices and games; organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises; determine game strategies
- Build appropriate relationships with team student athletes and school faculty/staff by maintaining a campus presence throughout the school year
- Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport; partner with fitness center staff to schedule strength and conditioning workouts for team members
- Assess players’ skills, monitor players during competition and practice, keep the Athletic Director informed of the athletic performance of students
- Follow established protocol in the event of an injury to an athlete
- Perform administrative tasks of the position including distributing equipment, supplies and uniforms, maintaining eligibility forms and other records, and following Covenant Day School athletics policies and procedures
- Lead and direct the team exhibiting Christian values to encourage good sportsmanship and camaraderie
- Desire to work with and mentor high school students; ability to partner and communicate with parents; also partner with local football athletic programs as appropriate
- Carry out requests of Athletic Department leadership and for partnering with other coaches and teams as needed
- Committed follower of Jesus Christ reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life
- Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship
- Physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds to shoulder height
- Additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Head of School
Seasonal Schedule:
- Season will be during the timeframe of August through November with off-season training scheduled as directed
- Practices and games are generally scheduled as after school hours (3:30 and later) and evenings.
- Approximately eight regular season games will typically be on weekdays in the early evening, final schedule to be determined
- Opportunity to lead summer sports camps and/or strength building seminars at Covenant Day School
