The Department of Internal Medicine is the largest and most complex Department in the Morsani College of Medicine with over 26 Divisions, Programs and Centers/Institutes, total human resources in excess of 1,000, and an annual all-source budget in excess of $143,000,000. The Department's ongoing growth includes the restructure of Cardiovascular Sciences from a separate Department to a Division, support of the microbiome initiative, and the execution of clinical, research and education initiatives focused on COVID-19 and emerging infectious diseases.

 The mission of the Department is to rank among the elite in the nation in the areas of education, research and patient care. The Department provides education and training for a diverse group of medical students, residents, fellows and health personnel from USF and throughout the world.

 The Department's research activities are numerous and involve both basic and clinical research activities in all subspecialties of Internal Medicine. Our NIH funding is in excess of $120 million over the past 3 years. Patient care occurs in our affiliated hospitals (including Tampa General Hospital, H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, James A Haley VA Hospital, Florida Hospital) as well as our state-of-the-art ambulatory health care centers. The Department also provides healthcare support and services via contractual arrangements with many diverse organizations. The US News & World Report recent rankings of our subspecialties include Nephrology at 18, and Gastroenterology at 24 and Primary Care at 67. 

The Department's faculty represent a group of dedicated physicians that are well recognized as leaders in all three mission areas.

The Division Administrator directs all administrative and operational activities for one or multiple divisions, fulfilling the educational, research, healthcare and quality missions at USF Health. The responsibilities of this position include administrative management of educational programs, general operations, financial management, budget development, fiscal and administrative compliance, supervision of staff, divisional human resource administration and recruitment, and a key liaison for clinic operations. Serves as a strategic partner to the Chair, Vice Chair's, Department Administrator, and other senior leadership and staff in the planning and implementation of policies, programs, and initiatives that support the primary mission areas of the department. The position reports to the Department Administrator and is directly responsible for ensuring that administrative and operational activities comply with Department, university, practice and educational policies and procedures. The position is responsible for the training and development of all direct reports and providing guidance/direction to other division level staff resources.

Responsibilities

Serve as division administrator for one or multiple divisions with operational oversight for provider productivity, clinic operation reporting and analysis, workflow improvement, new business opportunities, contracts and funding support, attainment of financial target margins, financial reporting, projections and budget for division operations revenue and expenses, leading and adherence of financial austerity measures, evaluation and attainment of operation efficiencies and expense savings, strategic planning of division operation activities (existing and new), management and supervision of multiple support resources. Responsible for renegotiating contract increases for assigned divisions by working with the department, our contract partners and legal. 

Lead each Division's strategic planning process by developing annual and long-term goals that align with the mission of the Department, implement the strategies and action plans of each Division, advise on actions to achieve success, and monitor progress. Participates in other key department projects. 

Maintain divisional compliance with faculty recruitment efforts including screening and reviewing applicant information, scheduling, and participating in interviews and facilitating search committee meetings. Develop faculty proforma for recruitment committee review that aligns with practice benchmarks. Personnel management of divisional staff, including recruitment, selection, training, development, evaluation, counseling, disciplinary action(s) and termination, compliance, and reporting. Assess shortfalls in staffing, hire/train/manager staff and lead strategic efforts for coverage and foster working relationships among groups. 

Accountable for divisional fiscal matters, including budget development, budget monitoring and financial reporting, purchasing decisions and processes, accounts payable processing, foundation support, clinic productivity, and revenue cycle operation activities at the divisional level. Prepare and present budget for assigned divisions and monitor compliance of each cost center within the approved budget.

Qualifications

MINIMUM: 

This position requires a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of four years related exempt experience, including two years of supervisory experience. Experience in academic medicine management. 

SB1310 equivalency: 

May substitute four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree. 

PREFERRED: 

MA or MHA (preferred) 

Minimum years of experience noted in a senior level position with a proven track record and demonstrated leadership experience in academic medicine management, decision-making, multi-tasking, planning & organization, Problem solving, analytical, judgment, interpersonal, communication, innovation & adaptability skills - all within a large, complex, time sensitive & pressure environment. 

Substantial Clinical experience in inpatient, outpatient and/or surgery environment including expertise in Clinical Operations, Financial/Budgets, and Business Management capacity. 

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and multiple partners across functional lines and external partners. Experience managing educational programs, financial management, budget development, fiscal and administrative compliance in an academic environment.

Proven experience & record of achievement in similar academic healthcare setting is critical. Excellent planning, organization, management, multi-tasking, analytical, problem solving, communications & financial management skills. Ability to work under pressure with sound judgment. Innovative & entrepreneurial abilities are critical. Knowledge of USF Health and USF systems, policies, procedures and workflows.
