Job Description

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Maintains School District vehicles in safe operating condition. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Diagnoses and performs necessary repairs on district vehicles and equipment. Repairs gasoline/diesel engines. 2. Performs preventative and routine maintenance and inspections on vehicles as required. 3. Assists Bus Drivers in conducting safety checks. 4. Operate arc welder and acetylene torch in repairing school vehicles and equipment. 5. Operate school bus for maintenance purposes only. 6. Train employees on proper use and safety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. 7. Maintains service records on district vehicles and equipment. 9. Does related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Vehicle maintenance and diagnosis and repair of gas and diesel vehicles; state requirements for vehicles. Ability to: Demonstrate journey level skills in the maintenance and repair diagnosis of gas and diesel vehicles; use tools and equipment required for the maintenance of vehicles; keep accurate records; use computerized diagnostic equipment; communicate effectively with a wide variety of personalities and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; understand, implement, and give oral and written directions in English. Experience: At least four years experience in diagnosing, maintaining and repairing gas and diesel vehicles and equipment. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Additional training in gas and diesel mechanics. License: Valid Class A or B California Driver's License and/or legally required license. Supervision: Under minimal supervision, reports to Director of Transportation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
