Portland Public Schools: Long Term Substitute Teacher- Special Education
Portland Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher for the Middle School for the remainder of the 2025–2026 school year. This position will provide instructional support and individualized education to students with diverse learning needs in alignment with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Daily stipend of $300 for certified substitute
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering high-quality instruction and accommodations based on student IEPs.
- Collaborating with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to support student success.
- Managing classroom routines and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Monitoring and documenting student progress toward IEP goals.
- Communicating effectively with students, staff, and families.
The desired candidate would possess the following attributes:
- Ability to integrate art into teaching and learning practices
- Exceptional communication, analysis, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Understanding of PBIS and MTSS initiatives
- Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor
- Impeccable character, a good sense of humor, and compassion for elementary school students, families, and staff
Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement (preferred).
- Experience working with students with special needs (preferred).
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
- Ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and district colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to sustain and improve student achievement outcomes
- Willingness to contribute to a safe school climate of high expectations and strong collaboration, high staff and student morale, and positive community involvement
