SUMMARY: Provides day-to-day leadership and management for all employees in the shipping area. Establish means and methods to insure all department employees perform job functions correctly and safely. Ensure deadlines are met, adhere to company policies and procedures, and responsible for employee performance and retention.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned.
- Engaged in daily operations, requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating to shipping team.
- Providing management of employees directly or through supervisors to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action, and performance management.
- Provide analysis and report building including on-time-in-full shipping analysis & picking/packing analysis.
- Ensuring safety compliance of all warehouse employees along with safety trainings as necessary.
- Training and developing all new/current employees on warehouse practices and procedures, including all safety related items.
- Must maintain department organization and resolve any issues for efficient product flow – inbound and outbound loads.
- Researching and compiles historical receiving data and competitive analysis.
- Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of the shipping department in an organized, safe and sanitary work environment that is in compliance with OSHA and government regulations.
- Maintain trailers, PIT, and other shipping related equipment in good condition.
- Collaborate daily with Transportation Coordinator to ensure timely and accurate daily load out of contract carriers.
- Must be able to manage inventory levels at multiple locations
- Monitoring and striving to achieve the successful attainment of the shipping metrics.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: H.S. or equivalent education with 5 or more years progressive shipping and/or material handling and inventory experience, or combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Must have experience or be familiar with inventory management systems. Food industry experience is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information before groups, within the organization. Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
OTHER SKILLS: Must be computer literate with intermediate skills in Excel. Must have advanced knowledge/skills with forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the facility. Could be standing/walking on concrete floors for 10+ hours per day, 6 days per week. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to sit, use hand to finger coordination; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions in both inside and outside environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually at a level where OSHA required hearing protection is required.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Must be available to work as scheduled.
