The Senior Director, Data is responsible for leading the enterprise data function. This role oversees all data-related functions for the organization including Analytics, Data Science, Robotics & Data Engineering. This role drives the establishment & execution of our data strategy, modernizes data platforms, and adopts predictive modeling and generative AI solutions. This role will plan, deploy, and manage the steps necessary to foster an “analytics and innovative culture”.

Reporting directly to the CIO, this individual will build partnerships with executive leadership to establish the vision for managing data as a business asset and to maximize the value derived from data assets; and leverage data as a strategic asset, improving decision-making, enhancing risk management, and driving operational efficiency.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the Business Analytics, Data Science, Robotics, Data Platform & Engineering teams - fostering collaboration, innovation, and a high-performance culture. 

  • Define KPIs, track progress, and conduct cost-benefit analyses to ensure AI investments generate value.  

  • Lead efforts to apply formal research and evaluation standards, advanced analytics, and data management principles to translate complex data into meaningful content.   

  • Research ways by which Coverys can gain a competitive advantage through AI innovation and analytics.  Develop comprehensive plans by which this is achieved. 

  • Develop centralized communication related to all enterprise-wide data analytics and insights efforts. 

Data Strategy & Execution 

  • Accountable for the development and execution of data strategy aligned with Coverys’ goals, ensuring data quality, security, accessibility, and compliance. 

  • Institute an enterprise operating model for data, analytics, and AI that: a) is consistent with the capabilities and competencies required to execute the strategy; b) considers the unique data needs and requirements of each business function c) thoughtfully integrates disparate sources of data produced across business units and by external partners. 

  • Establish and maintain trust in data, analytics, and AI assets by partnering closely with AI Governance  

  • Ensure data, analytics, and AI governance policies are executed upon, ensuring compliance, data privacy and security standards. 

Insights Driven Approach  

  • Operate as an enterprise evangelist for data-driven decision-making, promoting analytics and AI across the organization. 

  • Champion the adoption of predictive modeling and generative AI, applying these technologies to underwriting, claims, actuarial, financial, and operational processes. 

  • Drive AI adoption across departments by educating leadership and employees, facilitating collaboration across the enterprise, and promoting a data-driven culture. 

  • Leverage data insights to support decision-making & drive business outcomes. 

Data Management and Engineering 

  • Develop a roadmap for the data and AI infrastructure, partnering closely with the Principal Enterprise Solutions Architect.  

  • Oversee the design, development, and modernization of data platforms & integrations, and pipelines, to support advanced analytics, reporting, and AI/Machine Learning capabilities. 

Robotics 

  • Oversee the overall delivery of robotic process automation capabilities as it aligns with business strategies and product vision. 

  • Monitor fields of interest to the company, seeking potential areas where the application of analytics, robotics and innovation will enhance the company. 

The Senior Director, Data will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

Education, Experience, Competencies & Values

  • 10+ years of experience, proven leadership experience managing analytics and/or data engineering teams in a mid-to-large enterprise environment, preferably 2 years or more, in insurance or financial services. 

  • Bachelor’s, or advanced, degree in engineering or a related field 

  • Expertise in predictive analytics, and generative AI technologies. 

  • Strong understanding of data management platforms (such as Snowflake) and enterprise data governance. 

  • Track record of delivering measurable business outcomes through data-driven solutions. 

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at the executive level. 

  • Experience with insurance data, actuarial modeling, and regulatory compliance is highly desirable. 

  • Must be ready to take initiative and be self-driven 

  • True strategist, who can lead the organization & continue to focus on innovation. 

  • Demonstrated track record of experience in managing teams in a complex environment.   

The base salary range is $215,000 - $253,000 . Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including geographic location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
