Our Water Exercise Program is one of the most refreshing ways our members stay active and connected, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic Water Exercise Instructor to help them dive into better health.
As a Water Exercise Instructor, you’ll lead water fitness classes designed to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance with the natural support and resistance of water. You’ll bring energy and encouragement to every splash, creating an inclusive and motivating environment where members of all ages and abilities can thrive. You are responsible for creating and presenting each class in a way to deliver the best possible experience. You are in a position to have a major impact on our ability to attract and retain members.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Group Fitness Director, the Water Exercise Instructor is responsible for instructing, coaching and leading Water Exercise group classes in a safe, enjoyable, positive and inclusive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community within the class. Modify class as needed to meet varied health, ability and cultural needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational water fitness classes, as directed by the supervisor.
- Assists class participants with exercise techniques.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Includes a warm up, main body, cool down and stretch in all classes.
- Monitors perceived rate of exertion of all participants and can gear classes to the variety of participants in the class and give alternatives to fit the different levels of ability within a class.
- Takes out and puts away class equipment and reports any damaged equipment to the supervisor.
- Instructs participants about general wellness information and correct body form while exercising.
- Keeps classes fresh by incorporating new music, exercises, movements or patterns to classes.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Fitness instructor and/or swim instructor experience preferred.
- Able to motivate and encourage individuals through positive attitudes and enthusiasm.
- Basic knowledge of the components and techniques for teaching fitness classes.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
CERTIFICATIONS:
1. Bloodborne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Able to perform all water exercises.
- Must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job in loud and humid environments.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to: bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach, stand, lift up to 50lbs, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk and hear.
