Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Department of
Public and Community Health is seeking a highly organized, punctual, dependable, and
customer service-oriented student worker to be part of the team.

The Graduate Tutor for Biostatistics and Research will work in a Student Worker position supporting the Department of Public Health, MPH and MSPH graduate students, by providing individualized and small-group academic tutoring assistance to graduate students in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Methods courses. The graduate student tutor will work collaboratively with the Department Chair and the Faculty Program Director within the Department of Public Health, to help foster student learning, retention, and academic success, for graduate students.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Meet with graduate and doctoral students individually and/or in small groups to provide academic support in biostatistics, research design and development, and data analysis
  • Assist students in understanding statistical concepts, study design, and data interpretation relevant to Public Health research
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of tutoring sessions, attendance, and student progress
  • Attend mandatory tutor training sessions, workshops, and scheduled meetings as directed by the Department Chair or Faculty Program Director
  • Complete Canvas or assigned online training modules related to tutoring best practices and professional development
  • Support additional departmental or tutoring center initiatives as assigned
  • Must be available to work some weekday evenings and weekend hours, for accessibility for graduate students – there is opportunity for flexibility around evening and weekend availability (i.e. which evenings during the week/weekend and days of the weekend)

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Current graduate student in the Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) program at Liberty University.
  • Completion of or current enrollment in graduate-level courses in Biostatistics and Research Methods with a grade of “A” or “B”. A is preferred.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. 4.0 is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse learners.
  • Proficiency in basic statistical software (SPSS, R, or Excel) and understanding of research ethics and methodology.
  • Experience supporting students in graduate-level quantitative and qualitative research preferred but not required.
  • Previous tutoring or teaching assistant experience in biostatistics or research is preferred but not required.
  • Advanced proficiency in SPSS, R, or similar data analysis tools, preferred, but not required.
  • Commitment to Liberty University’s Christian mission and values.
