HIRING RANGE: $20.00 - $25.00/hour
JOB SUMMARY:
The Lakewood Cultural Center is seeking energetic, positive Dance Instructors to teach classes for children ages 3–8. Classes include, but are not limited to, Creative Movement, Foundational Tap, and Foundational Ballet.
Applicants should be professionally trained and passionate about sharing their love of dance with young learners. Instructors are expected to lead by example through punctuality, professionalism, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of responsibility.
The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.
This position requires curriculum planning and a commitment to fostering a supportive, engaging learning environment.
The interview process will include a teaching audition or video submission of recent work. Position benefits include:

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This job description does not intend to list every function of the position).
Essential Job Functions:
• Create lesson plans that enhance the learning experience and meet program goals.
• Instruct, encourage, and support students in a positive environment that fosters self-expression, confidence, and personal growth.
• Monitor students’ skill and age levels, adjusting class content as needed.
• Maintain awareness of student whereabouts at all times to ensure safety.
• Record and maintain accurate attendance records.
• Set up the studio before class and return the space to a clean, organized state afterward.
• Report and document any injuries using required forms.
• Promptly notify a supervisor of any broken equipment or unsafe conditions in the studio.
Important Functions:
- Works as a part of the team by supporting others and taking initiative;
- Attend all required staff/planning meetings.
- Other related duties as assigned.

- Receives supervision from the Cultural Programs Coordinator.
Essential Qualifications
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and youth.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, students, parents, and caregivers.
• Ability to develop engaging and inclusive lesson plans and curriculum.
• Experience leading or assisting with art or movement-based programs and activities.
• Experience managing groups of varying sizes and skill levels.
• Ability to motivate and inspire students individually and in groups.
• Strong classroom management skills.
• Awareness of classroom and supply safety practices.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Must successfully pass a background check.
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Dance or Dance Education;
- A minimum of 5 years beyond high school as an instructor or teaching artist may be used in place of a degree.
Pay Range
Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
