Job Summary

The Transportation Field Supervisor is responsible for providing on-the-road supervision, performance coaching, and field support to drivers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery operations. This role partners closely with Safety, Routing, and Operations Leadership to identify and correct issues in the field, support network integrations, assist with routing optimization initiatives, and lead special projects that improve service, efficiency, and driver engagement.

This position upholds the highest standards of driver safety, DOT compliance, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency while supporting strategic initiatives across the transportation network.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

On-the-Road Supervision & Driver Support

  • Conduct regular ride-alongs and route observations to ensure safe driving practices, proper product handling, and adherence to delivery SOPs.

  • Provide real-time coaching to drivers on safety, customer service, time management, and route execution.

  • Identify behavioral or training gaps and recommend individualized development plans.

  • Respond to field issues, including delivery delays, customer escalations, and route execution challenges.

  • Serve as a field liaison between drivers, dispatch, routing, and operations leadership.

Safety Coordination

  • Partner with the Safety Department to reinforce DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements.

  • Support post-incident reviews, accident response, and corrective action follow-ups.

  • Conduct field safety audits, spot checks, PPE checks, and compliance observations.

  • Assist Safety with targeted training initiatives based on incident trends or driver needs.

  • Report all accidents, injuries, and near misses promptly and accurately.

Routing Optimization & Operational Efficiency

  • Collaborate with routing and operations teams to assess route performance, identify inefficiencies, and recommend improvements.

  • Gather field data and driver insights to support routing changes, truck capacity maximization, and delivery sequencing improvements.

  • Audit RoadNet and routing outputs for accuracy and feasibility.

  • Validate pilot changes (e.g., routing redesigns, new delivery windows, equipment modifications) through field testing and feedback.

Integration & Special Projects

  • Support operational integration efforts for new locations, acquisitions, site closures, or network realignments.

  • Conduct on-site readiness assessments and assist with training, route familiarization, and driver onboarding during transitions.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Safety, HR, Operations, IT, Maintenance) to execute project plans on schedule.

  • Lead or assist with process improvement efforts related to transportation operations, customer experience, or delivery execution.

Driver Relations & Performance Management

  • Provide coaching and support for driver performance, attendance, and policy adherence.

  • Partner with HR to issue documented coaching or corrective actions when needed.

  • Maintain consistent communication and serve as an approachable resource for drivers.

  • Support new driver training and onboarding through route shadowing and safety instruction.


Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Valid Class A or B CDL required.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with drivers.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify field issues and recommend practical improvements.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Working knowledge of RoadNet or similar routing software preferred.

  • Willingness to work in the field for extended periods and adapt to changing operational needs.


Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; advanced coursework or logistics training preferred.

  • Experience in transportation supervision, routing, project work, or safety coordination.

  • Strong problem-solving ability and self-starter mentality.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities.
