About the Department
In the internship program, the candidate will perform professional work in on-the-job training for the workforce or to re-enter the workforce. The program provides students with a unique opportunity to learn how local government departments and agencies operate. Students will gain professional experience in their assigned department, develop a comprehensive perspective on the services Alexander County provides, and be presented with opportunities for networking and professional development. The assigned department should provide experiences that parallel the student’s academic studies in order to further develop their functional skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- General knowledge of state and local government units.
- Ability to interpret and analyze technical and statistical information.
- Knowledge of the varying departments and services offered by county government and willingness to develop skills in the assigned department.
- Ability to present ideas effectively in oral and written forms.
Other Qualifications
- Actively in the pursuit of a college or graduate degree that is directly relevant to the field of the internship you are applying for.
- Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
