District Attendance Coordinator Reports to: Superintendent of Schools/Part-Time 10 months Scope of Work The District Attendance Coordinator will provide district-wide leadership to ensure consistent, compliant, and student-centered attendance practices that address chronic absenteeism and remove barriers to learning while promoting engagement and academic success. This role oversees monitoring systems, compliance reporting, and targeted interventions in partnership with all district and school administrators. The Coordinator uses data to identify trends, conducts student welfare visits to address barriers to attendance, and fosters culturally responsive outreach and family engagement. Through transparent communication, training, and collaboration, the role further strengthens the district’s culture of strong attendance and contributes to the mission of ensuring every student is present, supported, and ready to learn. Serving as a bridge between the district and families, the Coordinator will also develop outreach efforts, facilitate family conferences, and connect families to resources that address attendance challenges. This role also ensures transparent communication. Key Responsibilities Compliance & Oversight Ensure district-wide compliance with state attendance mandates, including chronic absenteeism reporting and compulsory attendance laws. Develop and maintain consistent attendance procedures, documentation standards, and communication protocols across all schools. Prepare and submit required attendance reports to the state, Superintendent, and School Committee as needed. Serve as the district liaison for attendance-related audits and reviews. Data Monitoring & Analysis Monitor district attendance data to identify trends especially with the most vulnerable student populations. Collaborate with school administrators to implement targeted interventions. Generate periodic attendance dashboards for leadership team review. Family Engagement & Support Lead family outreach initiatives to build understanding of the importance of regular attendance and to address barriers to participation. Conduct or coordinate attendance conferences with families, emphasizing problem-solving and connection to supports rather than punitive measures. Partner with community external agencies to connect families to needed resources. Collaboration & Capacity Building Provide training and ongoing technical assistance to school-based staff and administrators on policy, procedures, and best practices. Support schools in implementing tiered attendance interventions aligned with the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports framework. Participate in cross-district committees focused on student wellness, safety, and equity. Performance Measures Maintain reduction in district chronic absenteeism rate. Consistency and accuracy of attendance data across all schools. Increase in successful family engagement contacts and documented interventions. Timely completion of compliance reports and audits with no corrective actions required. Positive feedback from schools and families regarding communication and support. Monthly attendance reports identifying students with excessive absenteeism. Represent BPS at Truancy and Family Court regarding truancy related issues Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Law Enforcement, or a related field. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in education, case management, or student support services. Strong knowledge of state attendance laws, district policies, and data systems. Demonstrated ability to engage families in culturally responsive and empathetic ways. Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information. Goals & Evaluation Goals will be outlined by the Superintendent Evaluations and conducted by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent annually. Work Environment: This position operates in both school and office environments with occasional travel between district sites and community locations.
