This role helps to foster self-reliance, care for the poor and the needy, and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items, helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church.

 

Supports Deseret transportation in helping to maintain the fleet of trucks and other equipment necessary to deliver and store commodities for use at the bishops' storehouses and other Welfare facilities.

Responsibilities

25% Perform Safety inspections and PM Services. May also initiate services and repairs by ascertaining problems and services

requested. Verifying Warranty and service contract coverage, developing estimates, writing repair orders and maintaining

customer rapport and records. Creates daily maintenance and repair schedule. Prepares repair orders by describing symptoms,

problems, and causes discovered as well as repairs and services required. Obtaining approval and entering RO's into service

database system. Order, receive and stock parts as needed. Prepare mileage, deadline, and daily task reports. Manage

information systems including data integrity, updates, and reports

10% Performs major mechanical work including differentials, clutches, undercarriages, body and steering parts.

40% Diagnose and perform repairs in the following areas: accessories replacement, lights, electrical systems, including starter and

charging systems, both hydraulic and air brake systems, tires wheels hubs and bearings, hydraulic systems,engine cooling and

lubricating systems, Heating and A/C Systems, power or steam clean equipment prior to repairs as needed.

25% Performs troubleshooting and repairs of complex Electronic ABS and Engine components and systems

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree in diesel mechanics or equivalent experience with diesel mechanics
  • Must have experience troubleshooting and repairing complex engine electronic repairs
  • Must be physically fit and willing to do strenuous work involving tools and equipment. Will need to work bent over, lying under and on

top of equipment to be repaired

  • Must be able to use hand tools to repair and maintain equipment
  • Heavy work -- occasionally lifting or moving up to 100 lbs with assistance; frequently lifting or moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in heavy duty diesel mechanics
  • Must have own set of hand tools
  • Must be knowledgable of any and all functional truck components
  • Prefer Vehicle Inspection Certification
  • Prefer experience in machining and welding
  • Prefer CDL in order to perform road tests
  • Prefer Heavy Duty ASE Certifications
