About the Department
The Clark County Comprehensive Planning Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Plans Technician position. This position examines building and development plans for compliance with zoning codes and regulations. Additionally, this role assists customers over the phone, in-person, and via email including deescalating challenging situations.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Position Duties
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to two (2) years of college level course work in Architecture, Building Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field AND two (2) years of full-time experience in the building technology, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, construction, or civil engineering fields. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Minimum Qualifications
Reviews and examines construction plans, specifications, minor computations and related documents for residential additions, commercial tenant improvements and various other application types for compliance with codes and regulations.
Researches information regarding building valuations and researches code provisions. Confers with developers, engineers, architects, contractors, property owners and others to give information regarding codes, regulations, and procedures in person, over the phone, or via e-mail.
Forwards plan packages to other departments and agencies for review; coordinates review with them and coordinates the plan review process to ensure that all applicable standards have been met. Provides data entry for information needed for approval and issuance of permits.
Provides primary services at a public counter to answer questions and approve minor plans.
Maintains accurate records, logs and files of plans, plan review status and work performed.
Gathers data and prepares Division reports.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of a work team.
Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a personal or County vehicle to visit work sites and attend meetings.
In the Building Department
Focus is on building codes and regulations. Determines building construction type, occupancy classifications, occupant loads, special inspection requirements, allowable floor areas, exiting requirements, accessibility requirements, and model energy code compliance.
In the Comprehensive Planning Department
Focus is on zoning and subdivision codes and regulations.
Other Qualifications
Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle in order to inspect field sites and attend meetings; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
