This position is located within a Title III funded grant program, Wailau Ola Pathway (WOP) in the Office of the Chancellor at the University of Hawai'i West O'ahu campus. Position serves as a key member of the project team who works collaboratively with other Division staff at UH West O'ahu and at Windward Community College to improve transfer and on-time graduation rates of Native Hawaiian students from Windward CC so that they may directly matriculate into UH West O’ahu online bachelor’s degree programs of study.  In the process of their matriculation, Native Hawaiian students, faculty, and staff will advance their linguistic, cultural, historical, political, socio-emotional, and spiritual knowledge and skills. Specific duties and responsibilities are described below.


Duties and Responsibilities (*Denotes Essential Functions):

  • *Under the supervision of the Project Director of WOP, serve as the project coordinator responsible for administering and executing the WOP grant activities which include the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of the grant goals and objectives.
  • *Create and develop a series of professional development, knowledge well training, and Native Hawaiian focused workshops for faculty, staff, and other campus stakeholders at the UH West O?ahu and Windward CC. 
  • *Create and develop a series of hybrid dynamic transdisciplinary educational experiences, workshops, and developmental opportunities grounded in ?olelo, nohona, and ?ike Hawai?i.
  • *Coordinate with both UHWO and WCC campus faculty and staff to establish a clear program outline complimentary to articulated programs, for cohorted student experiences in the academic year. 
  • *Execute student programming to increase transfer rates, on-time degree completion, and use of ?olelo, nohona, and ?ike Hawai?i.
  • *Plan, implement, and evaluate activities to support the development of ?Olelo, Nohona, and ?Ike Hawai?i practices and usage by students in their capstone projects.
  • *Work with campus community, Native Hawaiian agencies, and community groups to promote grant activities, leverage support for ongoing grant activities, and to ensure continual funding and program sustainability.
  • *Train, supervise, and manage student employees to ensure grant objectives and project activities are met.
  • *Define and collect data relevant to achievement of grant goals and objectives; implement and supervise records management system for data record keeping; and create statistical, narrative, reports and presentations as needed.
  • *Coordinate assessment and evaluation processes (e.g., pre/post formative/summative assessment, data collection/analysis, coordinate with evaluator to complete reporting processes) and identify areas for continuous improvement as noted by the grant indicators.
  • *Assist PI and PD with the preparation of grant proposals, reports, and timelines in accordance with grant requirements. 
  • Assist grant team in providing common learning experiences for students that creates opportunities to engage in scholarship and research, academic innovation involving community needs, and promotes overall sense of belonging to the institution and community.
  • Partner with offices across campus, the UH system, and broader community to perform outreach efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for Title III grant programming, K-18 curriculum development, academic affairs programming; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of student success, student support programs and services, disadvantaged student learning and development, grant program management, or operational technical support as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with student support programs and Title III grant programming.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software, excel, and adobe.
  8. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.


Supplement Minimal Qualifications:

  1. Ability to work evenings and weekends, on and off campus as needed.
  2. Demonstrated ability in data collection methods and analysis.
  3. Experience working with grant projects and implementing objectives and activities aligned to grant goals.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (students, faculty, staff, parents, administrators) with diplomacy, tact, and sensitivity within a multicultural setting.
  5. Functional knowledge of administrative and organizational processes as applied to the management of operations, services, facilities, and programs.
  6. Experience in working with various student populations that include at-risk socioeconomically disadvantaged, Native Hawaiian, and/or non-traditional students.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in educational or cultural programs demonstrated by knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply concepts, terminology.


Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in Education or related field.
  2. Experience working with UH Community Colleges.
  3. Experience in engaging with students and their families through college transfer workshops.
  4. Working knowledge of the Hawaiian language, culture, values and traditions.
  5. Experience with grant reporting, mentoring students, and planning student activities.
  6. The equivalent of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience with responsibilities of providing educational services and curriculum development in the K-18 setting.
  7. Knowledge of college admissions and financial aid procedures.
  8. Experience working with Native Hawaiian students in higher education.
  9. Experience in providing direct services to communities in West Oahu.
