ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES, AND OBJECTIVES
The Head Football Coach is responsible for the leadership, direction, and oversight of all aspects of the football program, including practice planning, recruitment, competition, academic oversight, fundraising, and facility management. The Head Coach will play a key role in advancing the mission of the Athletics Department and College, fostering a positive team culture, and supporting student-athlete development.
Coaching & Player Development
- Plan, organize, and supervise practices, training sessions, and competitive games.
- Provide individual and team instruction to improve student-athlete performance.
- Promote sportsmanship, integrity, and academic achievement.
- Supervise team members during all practices, games, travel, and related activities.
Recruiting & Retention
- Develop and execute a comprehensive recruiting strategy to maintain a full, competitive roster, including goals for resident students.
- Collaborate with Enrollment and Compliance staff to ensure effective recruitment and retention.
- Implement strategies to retain student-athletes, especially those requiring additional development.
Academic Oversight
- Monitor academic progress of student-athletes and enforce study hall requirements.
- Foster a team culture that supports academic success and graduation.
- Support student-athletes’ holistic development, including life skills and personal growth.
Fundraising & Program Advancement
- Lead all football-related fundraising initiatives, including events, donor engagement, and campaigns.
- Raise a minimum of 10% of the program’s scholarship budget annually (goal set by the Director of Athletics).
- Coordinate with College Advancement to ensure compliance with institutional processes and protocols.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Submit rosters, eligibility forms, and reports as required by the athletic department.
- Ensure adherence to Title IX and all College policies.
Team Management & Staff Supervision
- Supervise assistant coaches and support staff.
- Develop team policies and manage disciplinary matters appropriately.
- Coordinate travel logistics for practices, competitions, and events.
- Hire, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff.
Facilities & Equipment
- Manage maintenance and scheduling of football facilities.
- Oversee the inventory and upkeep of team equipment and uniforms.
Public Relations & Community Engagement
- Represent the college positively in the community and at public events.
- Promote the football program through media, social platforms, and outreach efforts.
- Maintain transparent communication with alumni and external contacts.
Operational & Fiscal Management
- Manage program budget and scholarship allocation in collaboration with the Athletics Department.
- Ensure efficient use of resources and compliance with College financial protocols.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Proven success in player development and recruitment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and ability to travel.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Experience managing a program budget and scholarship allocation.
- Familiarity with NCAA compliance regulations.
- Commitment to the College mission and maintaining confidentiality.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three years of football coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA collegiate level.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting, fundraising, and community engagement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Position will require the ability to frequently reach, stand, walk, bend, twist, grasp, sit, talk, hear, see, climb, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds, and push/pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
