General Description
Performs general environmental work by participating in natural resource enhancement and protection efforts.
Works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires six (6) months experience working with herbicides or pesticides and/or spraying operations based on area of assignment or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
May be required to possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License and/or pesticide license based on area of assignment.
Preferences:
FDACS Pesticide Public Applicators License (Natural Areas Weed Management)
ISA Certified Arborist
Basic Wildland Fire Training Certification(s)
Ability to speak foreign language(s): Spanish, French/Creole
Additional Information:
All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination and drug testing. Ability to maintain authorization to operate a county vehicle/equipment.
Position Duties
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Maintains a variety of natural areas in order toprotect the natural resources and provide patrons with a safe, pleasant, beautiful recreation area.
Operates a variety of landscape maintenance related equipment in order to ensure that the equipment operates safely and appropriately.
Removes invasive plant vegetation by hand removal or chemical eradication.
Removes overgrown vegetation and/or downed trees from trails, management roads, burn area margins, and waterways.
Removes trash and debris from natural areas, and waterways; may include removal of heavy objects, dead animals, and containers of unknown contents.
Operation and maintenance of waterway control structures based on area of assignment.
Utilizes GPS instrument to locate invasive plant infestations within work grids.
Operates small boats with tiller and outboard motor, amphibious vehicles, aquatic weed harvesters, and/or airboats, based on area of assignment.
Operates spray equipment, power tools, and hand tools, both bladed and non-bladed.
Maintains property access roads, fire lines, boat ramps, fence lines, and security barriers, based on area of assignment.
Installs and replaces signs in natural areas and other areas as required.
Assists in preparing the understory for prescribed burns, based on area of assignment.
Assists with equipment care, maintenance, and repair.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
