This is position will assist individuals from infancy up to age 21 with children’s cognitive impairments and functional limitations in their homes and approved community settings in the St. John Valley. This position will provide an average of 20-60 percent administrative support and 40 to 80 percent of time in direct care support in the delivery of services on a weekly basis (This will adjust based on the need of the program). Actual daily work responsibilities will be directed by the Children Supports Supervisor in order to meet the needs of the program.

Requirements

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with providing training and supervision to the individuals we serve.
  • Implement and facility weekly groups for clients based on the needs of program based on age, treatment goals, etc.
  • Carry a caseload based on that you will be responsible for all aspects of treatment 
  • Protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of the people we serve, including but not limited to administering a physical restraint to protect the individual and others from harm. 
  • Provide personal care to the individuals we serve
  • Adhere to applicable State of Maine and Central Aroostook Association policies and regulations.
  • Support individuals with difficult behaviors.
  • Document progress and behavior.
  • Serve as a replacement for the direct care staff when necessary (when staff is unable to work because of illness, emergency, etc.
  • Travel throughout Aroostook County as needed, focusing on the St. John Valley
  • Attend monthly program meetings and other meetings as required 
  • Participating in required trainings
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent credits, and two years of experience working with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  CPR/First-Aid, Safety Care and Behavioral Health Professional (BHP)
  • Must maintain a valid State of Maine Driver’s License and be insurable by Central Aroostook Association’s insurance carrier.

The employee will also need the strength and balance required to perform the activities associated with range of motion activities that are required as part of some individuals’ program.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These physical demands will vary depending on the area of the program.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a variety of home and work settings where there are individuals that smoke or have pets and may work near moving mechanical parts. The employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. Exposure to clients who may exhibit verbal and physically aggressive behavior. Risk to exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Noise levels can be loud. May be responsible for transporting individuals in their own vehicles.
