EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Cleaning Tasks
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, and wash floors
- Dust and clean walls, windows, furniture, and equipment
- Clean restrooms: sinks, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountains
- Replace supplies: toilet paper, soap, paper towels
Sanitation & Safety
- Follow disinfection procedures for body fluids (e.g., blood, vomit)
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) properly
- Report unusual or unsafe conditions
- Enforce safety rules and prevent vandalism
Equipment & Fixtures
- Set up, move, and dismantle portable equipment
- Clean lighting fixtures and replace bulbs
- Clean blinds and window shades
- Use ladders or lifts when needed
Moving & Deliveries
- Move furniture and supplies within the building
- Occasionally deliver materials using a pickup truck
Outdoor Maintenance
- Sweep walkways and remove debris
- Shovel snow and control ice buildup
- Use snow blowers and other equipment
- Pick up litter around the building
End-of-Shift Duties
- Secure the building
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma/ GED.
- At least one year of recent paid work experience in general building cleaning is desirable.
- Possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and good driving record per City policy.
- Ability to work weekday evenings and overtime when emergency conditions require such duty.
- Possess the physical capacity to perform the duties of the position including, but not limited to, the ability to perform manual work requiring average physical strength, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. with aides, frequent pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs.; occasional shoveling of up to 50 lbs.; the ability to work from a step ladder, and the ability to continuously stand, walk, bend, kneel, sit, climb, twist, stoop, crawl, squat, lift, stretch and reach overhead, push, pull, etc.
- Ability to drive a light truck.
- Some knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in general building cleaning; some knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices; ability to perform a variety of building cleaning and maintenance tasks; ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the public.
