Company info. Build big; build fast. Directly fabricating large components on-site minimizes transport and assembly labor, forever simplifying construction and supply chains. But realizing that future requires new materials that are strong, low-cost, and can be manufactured with unprecedented speed and reliability.
Fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) have untapped potential for building big because unlike metals, their properties and processing are independent of each other. FRP processing can be hacked by innovations in resin chemistry.
Perseus, established 2022, is a start-up out of Stanford University that uses proprietary resin chemistry for on-site manufacturing of oversize high-performance FRPs for buildings, bridges, wind turbines, and other applications in infrastructure and energy. We work closely with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and have support from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and ARPA-E.
As a Controls & Instrumentation engineer, you’ll work on the nervous system of our production machinery: actuation mechanisms, sensor integration, and methods of converting digital-to-physical. You’ll work closely with chemists, chemical engineers, and mechanical engineers to bring ideas to life, test new processes, and help shape the future of our products.
Responsibilities:
Controls:
*Aid in design and implement key operations in the machine: mechanical actuation, heating zones, etc.
Instrumentation:
*Lead development and implementation of instrumentation for measuring key process variables including temperatures & pressures
*Incorporate in-line NDE technologies for process control
*Develop control schemes to maintain process control
What We’re Looking For - Must-Haves:
Familiarity with machine building, electrical, and coding systems including 32, Teensy, Raspberry Pi Pico, Arduino, etc.
Experience in electrical engineering and electrical safety
CAD design experience, preferable SolidWorks
Experience with various sensors for process monitoring; for example: have evaluated multiple mechanisms to measure fluid temperature including thermocouples, thermistors, IR sensors, etc.
Self-starter who can operate with minimal direction and take initiative
Naturally curious and eager to learn new tools, materials, and techniques
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience in a startup or R&D environment
Experience with streamlining data acquisition, manipulation, and analytics/visualization
Experience with large-scale continuous processes
Experience with composite materials
