JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and register donors and patients while ensuring data accuracy.
- Determine donor suitability through screening and medical history collection.
- Perform phlebotomy for whole blood and automated collections.
- Operate and maintain phlebotomy and collection equipment.
- Provide post-donation care and manage any adverse donor reactions.
- Assist with the recruitment of potential apheresis and other procedures to meet organizational needs.
- Ensure the proper storage and transportation of collected blood products.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- At least 1 year of medical, customer service, or equivalent experience is preferred. Completion of a phlebotomy training program may substitute for experience.
- Six months of donor collection or equivalent phlebotomy or apheresis experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage stress, make decisions under pressure, and work collaboratively.
- Proficiency in data entry and basic computer operations.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required.
LEGAL AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
- Compliance with Florida labor laws, including wage and hour regulations, anti-discrimination laws, and workplace safety standards.
- Adherence to HIPAA and Florida privacy laws.
- Background check and drug screening required under the Florida Drug-Free Workplace Act.
- Certain positions may require a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check to ensure compliance with safety standards for driving company vehicles.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements:
- Medium work involving extended periods of walking and standing.
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 60 lbs. occasionally.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required for phlebotomy tasks.
Environmental Requirements:
- Work within mobile units involves close quarters in buses, which can be confined and require flexibility and adaptability to limited space.
- Frequent driving may be necessary when working with mobile units, either driving the mobile bus, riding within the mobile bus, or meeting at the site using personal transportation.
- Fixed-site assignments may vary and could include work at any of Suncoast Blood Centers' facilities, requiring flexibility in work location.
- Regular exposure to Florida weather conditions, including high heat, humidity, and potential for rainstorms and severe weather. Adaptability and readiness to work in these varying conditions are essential.
- Adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
- Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
