POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Chief Financial Officer (CFO) drives key strategic initiatives for Northwest Florida Community Hospital, providing oversight of all Financial Operations.
The Assistant CFO will supervise, directly or indirectly, the Accounting, Patient Financial Services, Registration, and Health Information functions.
The role is supervised generally by the Hospital Chief Executive Officer and an Alliant Management Regional CFO.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Daily contact with both internal and external customers during the completion of duties and responsibilities. Customers are defined as the hospital Assistant Chief Executive Officer, business office, revenue cycle manager, hospital department managers, staff, physicians and patients, Alliant regional and corporate employees, board members, community, vendors and accounting professionals (CPAs and Medicare/Medicaid Intermediary employees).
Manage confidential information as a means of performing duties and fulfilling responsibilities. This data includes, but is not limited to, payroll distributions, marketing studies, professional service contracts, legal issues, personnel issues and quality issues.
Responsible for ascertaining that hospital internal controls are adequate to safeguard the hospital’s assets and that systems are in place and functioning that will generate accurate financial reporting.
Leads and instructs others as a way of completing duties and responsibilities. The Assistant Chief Financial Officer instructs hospital accounting personnel in the correct techniques for achieving compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, advises hospital personnel as to the appropriate record keeping requirements to ensure compliance with third party reimbursement regulations, and advises management and staff on changes in accounting policy and how it should be utilized in their decision-making processes.
Must exhibit a high level of professional judgment during the completion of duties and responsibilities. The position calls for a determination of compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, third party reimbursement regulations and board approved financial policy.
Responsible for executive decision making and clear communication to staff, peers and superiors during the performance of duties and responsibilities. Decisions made by the Assistant Chief Financial Officer include, but are not limited to, recommendations on financing of capital expenditures, contractual terms, third party reimbursement strategies, budget projections and accounting projections.
The Assistant Chief Financial Officer will be expected to seize the opportunity to project the effects of alternative decisions prior to implementation as a means of properly performing one’s duties and responsibilities. This is achieved through preparation of comparative feasibility studies, pro forma income statements and cash flow procedures.
Must exhibit the highest level of attention to detail in the performance of duties. This attention is shown through one’s thorough understanding of a hospital’s accounting practices, third party reimbursement activity, contractual obligation and capabilities of the managed hospital accounting/business office personnel. The Assistant Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the revenue cycle / business office function including the overall control of accounts receivable.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field required.
Prior experience in a CFO capacity in a Healthcare or Hospital setting strongly preferred.
CPA strongly preferred.
