Position Overview   

Reporting to the VP of Education & Quality, the Clinical Staff Educator is responsible for coordinating, creating, implementing, and teaching clinical orientation, competency assessment programs, clinical competency validation, and providing Electronic Medical Record (EMR) training for all professional clinical staff.

  • Ensures the successful orientation of all agency professional clinical staff according to the orientation curriculum. This includes equipment training, bag technique and trunk bin process, in-field competency, OASIS/HIS/HOPE and documentation requirements.
  • Develops and maintains orientation material, training material, staff resources and education to ensure staff are up to date with current standards of practice, conditions of participation, vendor requirements and state regulations.
  • Educates new staff on the use and functionality of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software in orientation. 
  • Creates content, coordinates speakers, teaches and tracks attendance for annual skills day for all agency clinical professional staff.
  • Prepares, coordinates and/or presents educational programs covering areas such as orientation, on the job training, preceptor programs, customer service, clinical education, computer and software, re-training and clinical development.
  • Formulates teaching outlines and determines instructional methods such as individual education, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops to meet the needs of adult learners.
  • Verifies staff competency through testing and observation of practice for clinical skills, documentation, software, and equipment use. 
  • Develops re-training plans as needed based on individual staff needs.
  • Develops education material, instructional sheets, and job aids based on agency need.
  • Participates in software upgrades by testing, identifying training needs, establishing clinical training plans, creating education materials and coordinating with IT department for software implementation. 
  • Works collaboratively with the VP of Education & Quality to review orientation, annual education plans, annual skills day, OASIS/HIS/HOPE training. Identify improvements and assess the educational needs of home care, hospice and agency professional clinical staff.
  • Formulates and recommends orientation program goals and objectives.
  • Creates and implements competency education based on organizational goals and QAPI projects.
  • Monitors completion of competency education and reports progress to VP of Education & Quality.
  • Assists in the development and review of clinical protocols, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Handles difficult situations and conflict professionally. Seeks out positive resolutions focusing on improved communication and excellent patient care.
  • Delivers effective group presentations in a confident, clear and professional manner.  
  • Uses techniques for teaching adult learners.
  • Written communication is clear, concise and without spelling or grammar errors. Written communication is appropriate for the targeted audience.  
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities. Adapts to changes in the work environment and successfully manages competing demands. Demonstrates the ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Identifies education needs to improve and promote quality. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness. Fosters quality and professionalism communication and teaching.

Other Job Functions 

Participates in agency projects, committees, QAPI program and/or other activities upon request and approval from direct supervisor.

  • Participates on agency, community and state committees as determined by the VP of Education & Quality 
  • Responsible for assisting in coordination of professional student clinical rotations as requested.

Expected Hours of Work  

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The employee will be scheduled to work based on program and Agency needs. Work assignments may include holidays, weekend shifts.   

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Graduate of an approved occupational therapy or physical therapy education program (CAPTE) accompanied by current New Hampshire license
  2. Two years of Home Care/Hospice experience 
  3. Two years of staff, patient or community education and development experience preferred
  4. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record.
