SUMMARY OF POSITION: Assists with maintenance of city public areas, including, but not limited to, parks, city facilities, athletic complexes, event complex, fairgrounds, and right-of -ways.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Essential Duties*
Mows, weed eats, and fertilizes park areas, city facilities, athletic fields, event complex, fairgrounds; picks up trash and debris; rakes, drags, and rebuilds sand and clay surfaces; waters athletic fields and volleyball courts; cleans and maintains athletic complex, volleyball courts; event complex, fairgrounds and performs routine maintenance and repairs on irrigation systems;
Maintains, plants, and/or trims grass, trees, and brush; will include use of chainsaw and/or other light equipment as required and instructed (i.e. mowers, weed eaters, leaf blower, etc.);
Checks oil, water, fuel, tires and hydraulic systems and performs other routine inspections to ensure vehicle/equipment is in proper working condition;
Loads, transports, and unloads necessary materials for assigned projects;
Performs minor repairs on equipment;
Assists with cleaning of right-of-ways;
Cleans and maintains restrooms;
Installs and repairs fences;
Assists with concrete application and with form building for same;
Assists with event set-up and breakdown (i.e. central park);
Drives a truck in absence of truck driver;
Other Important Duties*
Works nights and weekends in support of all City related special events including working City holidays such as July 4;
Performs such other duties as may be required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: the safe operation of equipment used and of the provisions to the Texas Motor Vehicles Code relating to the operation of light and heavy motorized equipment. Physical Ability to: lift and maneuver up to 85 pounds (i.e. construction materials, pipe, bags of concrete, etc.); climb and maintain balance on ladder; do repetitive bending and kneeling; and perform strenuous work in the outdoors under adverse weather conditions. Ability to: understand and follow written and oral instructions; operate, and/or ability to learn to operate, standard maintenance equipment; establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers; and maintain Texas driver's license (applicable to job responsibilities) and good driving record. Occasionally requires assisting the team with physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 85lbs., climbing ladders, repetitive bending/kneeling, and working outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High school diploma, or its equivalent. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: State of Texas Class C driver's license.
