Summary

We are seeking dependable, hands-on individuals interested in beginning a career in heavy-equipment service. The Shop Assistant (Pre-Apprentice) supports technicians and service staff with daily shop operations, ensuring a clean, safe, and organized work environment. This position provides exposure to tools, equipment, and repair procedures while building the foundation for future advancement into Rudd’s Technician Apprentice Program.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in required safety programs and follow all company safety guidelines.

• Assist technicians by retrieving tools, cleaning parts, organizing work areas, and preparing equipment for inspection or repair.

• Perform basic shop tasks such as sweeping, power washing machines, organizing parts, disposing of waste materials, and maintaining general shop cleanliness.

• Deliver parts or supplies within the shop or to nearby job sites as directed.

• Operate forklifts, pressure washers, and basic shop tools under supervision.

• Perform simple mechanical tasks such as removing panels, draining fluids, or assisting with component disassembly.

• Learn and observe diagnostic and repair techniques performed by experienced technicians.

• Support the service team by maintaining shop organization and assisting with incoming and outgoing equipment.

• Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn within a team environment.


Qualifications

• Dependable and eager to learn mechanical skills.

• Must be able to follow directions and work safely around heavy equipment.

• Flexible and willing to work overtime when needed.

• Valid driver’s license required; ability to obtain a DOT Medical Certification preferred.


Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Previous exposure to automotive, diesel, or mechanical environments preferred but not required.

• Training will be provided on-the-job.

Communication Skills

• Ability to listen and follow written and verbal instructions.

• Basic communication skills to interact effectively with supervisors and team members.

While performing the duties of this position, the Shop Assistant will be required to utilize the equipment and tools

required to perform repairs. To perform the essential functions of this job, you must be able to sit, stand, walk,

read, talk, write, and hear. The incumbent must be able to continuously lift and/or move-carry up to 10 pounds; up

to 20 pounds frequently; and 21 – 100 pounds occasionally. Must be able to push and/or pull up to 50 pounds

continuously; up to 75 pounds frequently; and 76- 100 pounds occasionally. This position may work in a shop or

field environment. Must be able to work in extreme variable outside weather conditions, both hot and cold

weather temperatures. Must be able to obtain a DOT Medical Certification.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is position is classified as full-time, non-exempt.

Normal Days of work are Monday through Friday. Work hours are variable.

Overtime may be required on occasion as needed.
