About the Department
The Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, a six-time Gold Medal award winning agency, is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, self-motivated IT Systems Manager to join the Information Technology Services (ITS) Division. The ITS Division is committed to partnering with staff and citizens to provide professional, innovative, reliable and secure technology services in support of a comprehensive parks and recreation program.
As an IT Systems Manager of the Network/Telecom/Security Team, you will be leading a team of 9 professional staff to achieve the Division’s goals in Cyber Security, Network Infrastructure, and Telecommunications. Of those 9 staff, 3 are direct reports. You will collaborate with the other functional teams of the Division, comprised of Operations, Applications/Infrastructure, and Administration. Employee performs other duties as assigned.
Position Duties
- Supervises and directs the Telecom manager, Network manager, and Cyber Security lead.
- Directs the installation, support, maintenance, and monitoring of the department’s networking and telecom equipment (switching, routing, firewalls, wireless, etc.). Makes recommendations as needed to management and procurement.
- Oversees circuits (adds, changes, deletes) with department service providers (Comcast, Verizon, C-Net). Follows up to ensure appropriate billing for any adds, changes, or deletes and updates internal systems as required.
- Oversees the department’s IT security posture through the management of systems (end point protection, software, response handling, security awareness training, O365 monitoring, etc.).
- Oversees the representation for the department at Commission level IT collaborations
- Oversees the routine monitoring, reporting, and recommends action on security changes through vulnerability assessments and security audits.
- Oversees the administration, support, maintenance and monitoring of Telecom and Network services and protocols (IP management, Name Resolution, Certificate Authority, VPN, etc.)
- Oversees the physical infrastructure of the department’s Telecom and Networking (cable and rack installation, network box security, etc.)
- Oversees the Cyber, Telecom, and Network team projects, documentation, goals, timelines, and provides status reports as necessary.
- Oversees the wireless device operations and processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Geographic Information Systems, Data Sciences or any related field.
- Six (6) years of progressively responsible information technology experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total ten (10) years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing and directing multiple teams with competing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to effectively lead a team comprised of a multitude of different experiences and professional backgrounds
- VOIP certification or experience
- Cisco/Meraki certification or experience
- Cyber Security related certification or experience
Other Qualifications

Working Conditions
Work is in an office setting. Work is primarily sedentary and requires light physical effort. May be subject to various job demands such as high volume of work and tight deadlines.
