About our Department:

The Inspection Department enforces building codes and issues building permits for the City of Huntsville. The City of Huntsville's Inspection Department's mission is to provide protection for the health, safety and welfare of the general public in relation to the use and occupancy of structures by enforcement of adopted Building Codes and to protect the general public from abuse by unlicensed Contractors and sub-contractors by enforcement of Contractor Licensing Laws.

 

Plumbing Inspector I Position Overview, Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

This is journey level inspection work in securing and maintaining compliance with plumbing construction codes. Work involves the inspection of a variety of plumbing installations to determine if plans, workmanship, and materials comply with related codes and ordinances.

 

High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and experience as a journeyman level plumber, or any combination of education, training and experience.

 

Valid driver's license and good driving record.

 

Certification as an Alabama Journeyman Plumber or International Code Council Certification as a Plumbing Inspector.

 

Plumbing Inspector II Position Overview, Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

This is an advanced journey level plumbing inspection work in securing and maintaining compliance with plumbing construction codes. Work involves leading, providing assistance and advice to plumbing inspectors and conducting the more difficult complex inspections.  

  

High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and experience as a journey level plumber or certification as a Plumbing Inspector through the International Code Council and a minimum of ten years of plumbing trade experience is required or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates a minimum of ten years of plumbing trade experience.

 

Certification as an Alabama Journey Plumber or International Code Council Certification as a Plumbing Inspector.

 

Valid Driver's License and good driving record. 

 

Ten years plumbing trade experience is required.
