Description
Summary: Performs daily maintenance of ICU facilities and assists ICU technicians and veterinarians with patient care and procedures as needed.
Wage and Benefits: $17-$19 per hour including a $2 overnight shift differential. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, supplemental options, 401k, competitive PTO accrual and continued education stipend. Full benefit package available upon request with complete application.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain biosecurity of ICU and isolation barns by cleaning stalls and shared barn areas.

Stock feed, shavings, etc. as needed

Restrain or otherwise assist veterinarians with exams and procedures.

Stock ICU areas with proper drugs and supplies as indicated by ICU technicians

Assist with work-up and triage of emergencies as needed.

Perform maintenance and upkeep of ICU equipment as needed.

Run routine and emergency bloodwork

Monitor elective/healthy patients and maintain appropriate medical records.

Once working knowledge of common medications is demonstrated, may prepare and administer medications at the direction of ICU technicians.

Take vitals and otherwise monitor patients at the direction of ICU technicians.
Qualifications
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: Basic level of horse handling experience required. Preference given to those with experience working in veterinary medicine.
Language Ability: Ability to understand both written and verbal instructions regarding patient care and treatments. Ability to appropriately chart patient parameters, subjective observations, and independently utilize provided resources for standard operating procedures. Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from managers, doctors, and clients.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions.
Computer Skills: Computer literacy in common computer software programs.
Special Skills: Equine restraint/handling and horsemanship skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions throughout all four seasons. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to the risk of radiation and chemical exposure. Knowledge of MSDS use and personal protective gear including (but not limited to) gloves, masks, respirators, and eyewash stations are required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
