Laboratory Coordinator

Physics

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinates all laboratories in the Physics department. Supervise, organize, and participate in the teaching laboratories. This will include performing a variety of technical tasks related to physics laboratory operations including the procurement, testing, and maintenance of scientific equipment, and inventorying and purchasing equipment and supplies to facilitate teaching and research objectives. Furthermore, the laboratory coordinator will be aware of the content of these courses on a weekly basis, will be actively involved in organizing equipment, and will troubleshoot laboratory activities. The laboratory coordinator will also facilitate student involvement in the research laboratories and perform appropriate duties at the request of the faculty PI.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,000 - $56,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

REPORTS TO: Department Chair

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Scientific equipment assembly, calibration, and maintenance, including software.

  2. Laboratory setup.

  3. Supervision of student assistants.

  4. Assist faculty in setup for in class demonstrations.

  5. Designing and developing new experiments and demonstrations.

  6. Regularly organizes all laboratory spaces within the department.

  7. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  1. Advanced computer-based laboratory data acquisition and analysis skills.

  2. Experience in handling physics laboratory equipment.

  3. Physics and integrated circuits-based laboratory experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to setup and test the experimental arrangements.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in physics or a closely related field is required.

  2. Master’s degree in physics is preferred.

  3. Instrumentation or related engineering discipline, plus laboratory experience.
