About the Department
Manage and coordinate the daily functions of the Inupiat Heritage Center Tourism Program including purchasing,sales, inventory, financial reports and merchandise displays of artisan and tourism products. Work with various vendors and local artist for the purchase and/or consignment of goods. Coordinate a Cultural Arts Performance Program and other special events upon request. Promote tourism through the Inupiat Heritage Center through
advertisements and partnerships.
Position Duties

Manage the cultural tourism program in partnership with regional and statewide organizations.Coordinate a Cultural Arts Program during the tourist season.
Oversee the traditional room artisan program.
Coordinate special events with various organizations.
Manage the facility use requests including payment.
Coordinate tourism program in partnership with local and regional organizations.
Maintain inventory and cost control of the Gift Shop.
Responsible for ordering, purchasing, receiving, pricing and maintaining an adequate supply of merchandise in support of local artisans.
Maintain sales receivable and payable of gift shop items including all data entry.
Prepare daily deposits of receipts, monthly financial reports, quarterly financial reports and profit and loss statements.
Supervise cultural tourism staff including the sales clerk.
Oversee the arrangement of displays of native arts merchandise as well as other gift shop items.
Work with local artists and vendors for the purchase and/or consignment of goods.
Advertise and promote merchandise and the Inupiat Heritage Center.
Travel to the villages as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to effectively manage a facility use calendar.
Ability to generate accurate reports for cultural tourism and sales.
Ability to coordinate events on behalf of the Heritage Center.
Knowledge of quality local and North Slope arts and crafts.
Skill in customer relations.
Skill in operating a cash register.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with vendors and tour companies.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Ability to design and maintain displays of merchandise.
Other Qualifications
High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Two years of work experience in a retail setting;
Three years of experience with inventory, ordering or purchasing procedures;
Two years of experience with tourism programs;
Two years of work experience with a personal computer utilizing common software applications;
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Valid Alaska drivers license that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria
