Statement of Purpose
The Support Services Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the Environmental Services and Linen departments, ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment that enhances the healing experience for patients, families, and staff.
This role champions service excellence and operational efficiency through evidence-based practices, staff engagement, and continuous improvement. The Support Services Manager aligns departmental performance with JRMC’s mission to exceed expectations and be THE difference in the lives of those we serve, ensuring that every aspect of the facility reflects quality, safety, and pride in our organization.
The manager collaborates closely with nursing, facilities, infection prevention, and safety teams to uphold environmental standards, optimize resources, and maintain regulatory compliance. Through teamwork, innovation, and accountability, this role supports JRMC’s vision to be the best rural hospital in the country for patients to receive care, employees to work, and providers to practice.
This is a full time benefited (exempt) position working 80 hours a pay period. Days of work are Monday - Friday with occasional nights, weekends and holidays if coverage is needed.
JOB FUNCTIONS
QUALITY
- Ensures Environmental Services and Linen operations meet or exceed all regulatory, infection prevention, and accreditation standards.
- Implements consistent quality assurance checks, ensuring cleanliness, appearance, and safety across all patient and public areas.
- Monitors performance metrics and drives continuous improvement in sanitation, infection control, and turnaround times.
- Conducts inspections and evaluates hospital conditions, recommending updates to enhance safety, aesthetics, and efficiency.
SERVICE
- Provides leadership for the daily operations of Environmental Services and Linen, ensuring efficient, high-quality service delivery.
- Prepares and manages daily assignments, ensuring appropriate staffing and prioritization of cleaning and maintenance activities.
- Coordinates departmental communication across all shifts to ensure consistency, continuity, and responsiveness to hospital needs.
- Acts as liaison with internal departments to align environmental and linen services with patient care priorities and hospital standards.
PEOPLE
- Recruits, trains, and develops team members, fostering engagement, accountability, and professional growth.
- Conducts staff meetings, performance evaluations, and ongoing coaching to build a culture of teamwork and excellence.
- Promotes a respectful, safe, and supportive workplace aligned with JRMC’s values and mission.
- Leads by example, modeling professionalism, service excellence, and commitment to organizational goals.
FINANCE
- Develops and manages departmental budgets, ensuring fiscal accountability and resource optimization.
- Reviews and approves payroll, supply purchases, and equipment needs in alignment with budgetary targets.
- Analyzes productivity and operational costs, identifying opportunities for efficiency and cost reduction.
- Oversees inventory and supply management to ensure appropriate stock levels and cost-effective purchasing.
GROWTH
- Develops short- and long-term departmental goals consistent with JRMC’s strategic priorities.
- Participates in planning and implementation of facility projects impacting Environmental and Linen Services.
- Stays current with trends, technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and service improvement.
- Represents the department in hospital committees, special projects, and performance-improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- PREPARATION AND TRAINING - Demonstrates a solid understanding of business principles and healthcare operations. A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
- WORK EXPERIENCE - Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience. Working knowledge of environmental, linen, and including chemicals, tools, and equipment used to perform services.
- ANALYTICAL ABILITY - Requires strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills. Ability to read and interpret regulatory documents. Must have strong mathematical abilities to analyze, evaluate and compute costs, budgets, and schedules. Must be proficient with commonly used office software applications.
- INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT - Independent judgment is required; some direct guidance from director; short term costs likely but restricted to single cost center.
- CONTACTS WITH OTHERS - Interacts with others in situations of some importance; directs the work of others; requires ability to gain cooperation of others; effectiveness of one or more organizational components could be affected.
- POLICY AND PROCEDURES - Develops overall policies and procedures for departments.
- MENTAL/VISUAL EFFORT - Work occasionally requires a high level of mental/visual effort, for less than 20% of work time. Must be able to speak and write the English Language in an understandable manner. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the major requirements of this position can be fully met.
- WORKING CONDITIONS - Works in well lighted and ventilated work area. Works beyond normal working hours, on week-ends and holidays and in other positions temporarily when necessary. Is subject to reactions form dust and disinfectants throughout the work day. Handles emergency or crisis situation. Participated in and complies with JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of and observes Standard Precautions. OSHA Job Classification: This position is defined as a Category I: Employee does have exposure to blood borne pathogens.
