About TEGNA
TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.
WBIR, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Knoxville, Tennessee, is looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Journalist to expand our tradition of Straight from the Heart storytelling into Nashville.
This isn’t a typical MMJ job. You’ll own our Nashville-based coverage, shaping how East Tennessee connects with the state’s capital and stories with statewide impact.
We’re looking for a journalist who can find and tell powerful, people-centered stories with statewide appeal. You’ll have the creative freedom to pursue enterprise and investigative work while delivering smart, visual daily content. You’ll collaborate remotely with our Knoxville newsroom but operate with the independence of a trusted bureau chief.
This is your chance to cover one of the fastest-growing, most dynamic cities in the Southeast — with the backing of a legacy newsroom that believes in meaningful, heartfelt journalism. You’ll make your mark not just in a market, but in a state that shapes national conversations.
Responsibilities:
- Shoot, write, edit, and produce stories for TV, digital, and streaming platforms
- Deliver authoritative, compelling live shots during developing or breaking news
- Generate enterprise and accountability stories that resonate beyond the daily grind
- Cultivate sources who keep you informed about key events, ideas, and communities
- Use creative production tools — graphics, user-generated content, and new digital formats — to elevate storytelling
- Collaborate virtually with producers and managers who understand what “solo” really means — and protect time for enterprise
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional reporting experience (exceptions for exceptional talent)
- Proven news judgment, strong communication, and ethical decision-making skills
- Exceptional writing and visual storytelling ability
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Proven social and digital content creation ability
- Knowledge of the Nashville market a plus
