Title: Student Support Specialist | Long Term Substitute - Rossford Elementary School
Reports To: Director of Student Services / Building Principal

DATES: January 5, 2026 through March 30, 2026

SALARY:  Beginning at $125 per day

 

General Description:

The Student Support Specialist is a certified staff member responsible for directly supporting students who exhibit behavioral or emotional challenges. This role includes responding to behavior incidents, assisting with de-escalation, and teaching and reinforcing positive behavior strategies to help maintain a safe, supportive learning environment. The specialist collaborates closely with staff to implement consistent support practices that foster student success through relationship-building, intervention, and teamwork.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio license in teaching, counseling, behavior therapy, or intervention (other relevant licensure may be considered)
  • Specialized training and experience in behavioral intervention and de-escalation strategies
  • Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and trauma-informed practices
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in crisis or high-stress situations
  • Experience working with students with challenging behaviors
  • Compliance with the district’s drug-free workplace policy, including the ongoing prohibition of alcohol and unauthorized controlled substances

    Essential Responsibilities:

Student Behavior Support:

  • Respond promptly to behavior incidents and assist in crisis or de-escalation situations
  • Provide direct instruction to students in behavior regulation and coping strategies
  • Reinforce student behavior plans and promote prosocial behaviors
  • Support students’ behavioral and emotional regulation needs throughout the school day
  • Document behavioral incidents and student interactions accurately and timely

Collaboration and Intervention:

  • Partner with staff to ensure consistent implementation of behavioral supports
  • Assist in monitoring and refining behavior plans based on student progress and staff feedback
  • Collaborate with school teams and intervention personnel within the MTSS framework
  • Conduct regular check-ins with staff to support plan implementation and promote well-being

Administrative and Compliance Duties:

  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, district procedures, and confidentiality requirements
  • Support fidelity of behavior plans through observation, modeling, and staff coaching

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate professionalism and maintain strong working relationships with students and colleagues
  • Serve as a consistent, supportive presence throughout the school day
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services, Building Principal, or Superintendent

 

 

Daily pay rates for certified substitutes are  as follows:

  • Days 1–30: $125 per day
  • Days 31–60: $140 per day
  • Day 61 and beyond: $220 per day

Please note: The count of days worked resets at the beginning of each school year for pay rate purposes.

 

To further support you, substitutes (certified and classified) who complete five days of work during the school year will be eligible for reimbursement of the following expenses:

  • BCI/FBI Background Check: Up to $80
  • Substitute Teaching License: $25

Important: Substitutes must initiate the reimbursement process directly.
